Description
' PATENTED JULY 28, 1908.
H. G. MILLS. FOUNTAIN PEN.
APPLICATION FILBDJAN.31.1908.
'UNITED PATENT oEEioE.
HENRY G.. MILLS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCOv-SIN.
.FOUNTAIN-PEN.
'Specification To all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY G. MILLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mil. waukee, county of Milwaukee, and Sta-te W'isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to fountain pens and. the object of my invention is to provide a self iilling fountain'pen of improved construction.
A lfurther object of m invention is to provide a selffilling fountain penwhich may be readily and easily operated, of low'cost to manufacture and one which shall Apresent a neat appearanc'e,`
lOther objects will appear hereinafter.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to lthe accompanying drawings forming apart of this specification and in which,l y
Figure 1 is a view of the pen partially in longitudinal section, Flg. 2 1s ailetail view illustrating the' several arts separated, and.
Fig' isa detail section view. Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the -barrel-of the pen forming the reservoir, 2 and and internally threaded as at-5 smaller and is made quite.
3. the capfor covering the' pen. The upper end of the barrel is 4 formed integrally therewith and of reduced diameter.- The nipple, 4 isboth externally and 6 for purposes hereinafter described. -7 indicates a conipressib bulb, by means of which the reservoir, 2 -is filled. The bulb 7 is of substantially the same diameterI as the ni iple, 5 or slightly long to give it suflicient capacity.
8 indicates a plug referably of hard rubber by means of wliic i the bulb, .7 is secured to the reservoir. The plug, Sis threaded and is adapted to engage'the threads, 6 of the4 l nipple, 4.
9 indicates an annular rib or flange formed upon the plug, S and having a double function, namely, to provide means for 4more securely attaching the bulb to the plug and for clamping its edges against the end 5 of the nip ile to form an air tight joint between the bul and the reservoir.` It is obvious that o f Letters Patent.y Application fried January 3 1, 190s. seal No. 413,548.

As the bulb expands it draws the ink into the reservoir, 2 after which the shield 10 is re-- placed. To prevent the ink from entering thebulb when in upright position, when in the pocket, the bore, 12' of the lug, S is made quite small. The edge of t 1e rubber '.bulb being clamped'betweentlie rib, 9 and lthe nipple4 prevents lthe ink seeping out at 'thejoint and soiling the clothes, the edge oi" the bulb forming a gasket.

- 1. In a fountain pen its upper end with a nippleof reduced diameter and internally and externally threaded, in
combination' with' a plug threaded into said' -nipple and having a bulb secured thereto and a'shield forsaid. bulb threadeil on said nipple as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a fountain pen, the barrel haring a the barrel provided at .80l
nipple of reduced diameter formed u on'its 'name to this specification in the presence. of
two subscribing witnesses.
