To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES D. DURKEE, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Chock for Bowsprits, of which the following is a specification, the same being a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable ot ers skilled in the art-to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to chocks having projections extending in front of a recessed portion thereof through which" a rope may work while being ulled in or let out, and in particular to a rol er chock for the bowsprits of vessels, and it'has for its object the provision of a device of thekind set forth, of

simple construction, and forming in opera-- tion a durable and efficient organization.

To attain the desired end, the invention consists in novel devices and combinations of devices as hereinafter explained.

In order to enable the invention to be fully understood, I shall proceed to' explain the same by reference to the drawings, which accompany and form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side view or elevation of an article constructed according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.

. and the object of this invention is to provide a device that may, upon proper manipulation, be utilized for either right hand or a left hand chock at will.

As shown in full lines in Fig. 1, the parts are assembled so that the orifices a, b, and a I), register with each other, and the device may then be attached to the bowsprit by bolts D, passing through the said orifice, a

In case it is desired to fasten the chock to the opposite side of the bowsprit, the parts having been dismembered or dismantled, the leaf or plate B is placed on the base or support A in the manner shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, the bolts D being passed through the orifices a, b, and In this case, the device will form a left hand roller bowsprit chock.

The advantages of the convertible right and left hand bowsprit chock over a roller chock which will serve only as a right hand chock, or a left hand chock, are manifest;- in addition to which the fact, that should any of the parts of the devicebeoome accidentally broken, it may be readily replaced, without requiring the purchase of an entirely new chock, renders this device of great utility.

I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be lirnited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.

What I claim as my invention is:
