Be it known that I, (iiAiiLns WiLLriis, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Baltimore city, State of" Maryland, United States of America, have invented ce1- tain .new and useful Improvements in Flushing-Tanks, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates particularly to the devices for operating the flush valves of what are known as low-down flushing tanks for water closets, etc., but it involves also improved means for attaching the cover to the tank.
In low down'tanks the valve is usually operated by means of a handle or push'but-v ton located at the lower right hand corner of' the tank, and it is sometimes located in the upper middle ortion of the front wall of the When ocated in this last mentioned position, it is necessary for the user of the closet to bend rearward and operate the button with his back. According to my invention, I have provided means for operating. the flush valve o which can be actuated by an easy and natural movement of the arm without bendiner the back or twisting the hand.

I claim as' my invention :f-
1. The combination of a water-containingand which is operated by said actuating lever, a lever pivoted to the tank and connected with the flush-valve and a rod connecting said lever with the intermediate lever.
2. The combination of a water-containing tank, a jacket surrounding it, a flush valve within the tank, an actuating lever hinged to the front wall of the jacket, an intermediate lever in the spa'ce between the jacket and the tank which is operated by said actuating lever, and operative connections between said intermediate lever and the valve.
3. The combination of a water-containing tank, a jacket surrounding it, and betweenl which and the tank there is an air space, alever within the tank pivoted to the front wall thereof and having an arm projecting over'the top of the tank, a flush valve withwhich said lever is connected, an intermediate. lever within the air space between the. jacket and the tank, a rod connecting this lever with the arm of the first mentioned lever, and an actuatinglever engaging the intermediate lever.
