APPLICATION FILED SEPT. a, 1907.
" of parts hereinafter fully described and- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- ARTHUR C. KELLER, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO.
BEDCLOTHES-CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 14, 1908.
Application filed September 6, 1907. Serial a). 391,626.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR O. Knttna,
a citizen of the United States, esiding at S ringfield, fin the county of Clark and State provements in Bedclothes-Glamps, of which 7 Y the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvem cuts in clamps, comprehending particularly a clamp for-attaching the covers or clothes of bedsteads to the frame of the bedstead to prevent displacement thereof.
yqTheo ject-of the invention is to provide a device ofthis character ofsimple and inexpensive construction which may be quickly and conveniently-applied-and removed, and
which-will retain the clothes securely in posi- .tion without injury thereto.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which .Figure 1 1S8 perspective view of the clamp Fig. 2 isa sectional elevation, showing the application ofthe device in use.
' The clamp comprises generally an attachmember 1 and a clasp 2. The member 1 embodies a saddle or U-shaped frame adapted to straddle the rail of-a bedstead and provided upon one of its arms with a clamping screw 3 and upon its bight portion with a A bell crank lever 9is pivotally mounted s'wiveled'ring or eye 4-. I
The clasp 2 is composed of a Ushaped frame formed in its upper arm with a longitudinal slot 5. Within this frame is arranged a correspondin ly shaped'spring strip 6, the lower: arm of w lch is fixed to the lowerarm of the'frame and formed to provide at its free 'enda toothed gripping jaw 7. The upper armof the strip normally bears against the upper arm of the frame and is free from attachment thereto .to serve the function of a spring jaw'8 having teeth to cooperate with the teeth 7 of the stationary jaw.
for movement in the slot 5 upon a pivot pin 10, the upper arm 11 of said lever being curved to extend outwardly through the slot .to form a manipulating finger piece, while the lower and shorter arm of the ever is pro Ohio, have invented new and useful Im-' vided with a toe or projection 12 to bear upon the movable jaw 8. By thisconstruction, it will be apparent that upon the-movement of the lever in one direction the jaw 8 will be closed against the jaw 7 to clamp an intervening object, such as the sheet or s read of the bed, While upon the restoraattaching member fastened to the rail of a bed and the clasp eng-aged'with the edge of a sheet, blanket, spread or the like, whereby the latter is held from shifting and becoming displaced. The e e and links connecting the two members of t e clamp allow the claspto swing both vertically and laterally, thus permitting a limited range of movement of the covering, whereby tearing of the latter under strain will be-eiiectually prevented.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is v 1. A bed clothes holder comprising a metallic bed-frame-engaging clamp, a metallic bed-clothes-engaging clasp, rigid eyes, swiveled to and forming permanent portions of saidclamp and'clasp, and an inelastic link connecting said eyes andcooperating therewith to couple the clamp and clasp for rela tive universal pivotal and sliding movements.
2. A bed clothes holder com rising a U- shaped bed-frame-eng'aging 0 amp, a U- Y shaped bed-clothes-engaging clasp, rigid eyes, swiveled to and forming permanent portions of the bightportions of said clamp and clasp, and an ine astic link connecting said eye and cooperating therewith to couple .the clamp and clasp for'relative universal pivotal and sliding movements.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature inpresence of'two witnesses.
A 4 I ARTHUR 1C. KELLER.
Witnesses: W. R. HORNER, C. E. SCHAEFER.
