No. 753,775 2 Claims. (CI. 24-81) This invention relates to improvements in holders for diapers and the like and more particularly relates to a holder for holding diapers within a toilet bowl, for washing therein by flushing of the toilet.

A principal object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved diaper holder so arranged as to suspend a diaper within a toilet bowl for washing or rinsing of the diaper by flushing of the toilet, and positionable outside of the toilet bowl when not in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a holder for diapers and the like which may be clamped on the rim of a toilet bowl and is positionable to suspend the diaper within the toilet bowl for rinsing by flushing of the toilet, and which may be positioned to depend along the outside of the toilet bowl when not in use.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a holder for diapers and the like in which a resilient clamp is provided to -be resiliently clamped to the rim of a toilet bowl, and in which a clip firmly grips the diaper and is connected to the clamp by a linkage connection, accommodating positioning of the clip along the outside of the toilet bowl when not in use, and within the toilet bowl when a diaper is clipped thereto, and so arranged as to firmly grip and retain the diaper to the clip, permitting rinsing of the diaper by flushing of the toilet and soaking of the diaper prior to and after rinsing.

These and other objects of the invention will appear from time to time as the following specification proceeds and with reference to the accompanying drawing where- 1n:

FIGURE 1 is a partial fragmentary vertical sectional view of a toilet bowl showing the diaper holder of the invention clamped to the rim of the toilet bowl, and suspending a diaper within the toilet bowl;

FIGURE 2 is a partial fragmentary vertical sectional view showing the diaper holder positioned on the outside of the toilet bowl when not in use, and suspending the diaper to accommodate water to drip therefrom into a bucket or the like;

FIGURE 3 is an extended generally plan view of the diaper holder, showing the double link connecting the diaper clip to the clamp;

FIGURE 4 is a view in side elevation of the diaper clip, showing the clip in a closed position; and

FIGURE 5 is a view in side elevation of the diaper clip, showing the clip in an open position.

In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing, I have shown an inverted generally Ushaped spring clamp adapted to be yieldably clamped to a rim 11 of a toilet bowl 12, and have shown a spring clip 15, adapted to be clipped to and firmly grip a diaper 16, for suspending the diaper within the toilet bowl, to be rinsed by flushing of the toilet. The clip 15 is shown as being movably attached to the clamp 10 by a double hinge link 17, positionable to suspend the clip 15 and diaper 16 within the toilet bowl, and to suspend the clip 15 outside of the diaper bowl when not in use, or where it may be desired, to hang the diaper to accommodate the water to drip therefrom into a bucket or the like on the outside of the toilet bowl.

The clamp 10 may be made from a spring metal of any desired type, or may be made from a resilient plastic material, and has spaced legs 19 extending from a base or connecting member 21. The legs 19 are bent inwardly at their outer ends and have inwardly extending engaging portions 22 engaging under the rim of the toilet bowl,

A hinge plate 23 is shown as being bolted or otherwise secured to the base 21 of the clamp 10 and as forming a hinge support for a hinge link 24 pivotally connected to said hinge member by a transverse pivot pin 25. The hinge link 24 has an inturned outer end portion 26, turned to form a pivot socket for opposite ends of a wire link 29. The wire link 29 has a closed outer end portion 30 extending through

31 and 33 have jaws 35 and 36, respectively, on one side of the pivot thereof. The jaws 36 are shown as having pins or pegs 37 projecting therefrom, and inclined inwardly in the general direction of the pivot 30, to grip the diaper with a hook-like action. The pegs 37 are registera-ble with depressions or holes 39 in the jaw 35 and are biased toward said holes by a torsion spring 40 encircling the pivot 30 between the side walls of the

43 and 44 of the clip. The torsion spring thus positively engages the pegs 37 with the diaper to prevent flushing of the diaper down the toilet and also accommodates opening of the clip by pressing on the

It may be seen from FIGURES l and 2 that when it is desired to rinse a dirty diaper it is merely necessary to lift the clip 15 from along the outside of the toilet bowl and clip an end or corner of a diaper thereto.

The weight of the diaper will then cause the double hinge link 17 and clip 15 to drop within the toilet bowl and depend from the rim thereof in the position shown in FIGURE 1. The diaper may then be soaked in the toilet bowl and may be rinsed without touching the hands to the diaper.

The diaper may then be removed while the clip 15 is in an upwardly extended position, or the diaper may be suspended on the outside of the toilet bowl until the free water has dripped therefrom, at which time it may be placed in a diaper pail or like receptacle.

It may be seen from the foregoing that I have provided a simple and efiic-ient holder for diapers enabling the diapers to be rinsed and soaked in a toilet bowl without holding by the hand, and avoiding the possibility of flushing the diaper down the toilet.

It may further be seen that the diaper holder of the invention consists in a reversible double hinge link forming a connector and support for the clip for the diaper, accommodating the clip to be supported within the toilet bowl to depend therefrom when not in use, or where it is desired, to hang a diaper to accommodate water to dri-p therefrom into a bucket or the like.

While I have herein shown and described one form in which my invention may be embodied, it should be understood that various modifications and variations in the invention may be effected without departing from the spirit and scope of the novel concepts thereof, as defined by the claims appended thereto.

I claim as my invention:

1. In a holder for diapers and the like, a generally U-shaped spring clamp having a wide flat base and legs extending from opposite sides thereof and biased inwardly toward each other adjacent their outer ends for resilient clamping engagement with the rim of a toilet bowl and having inwardly extending engaging end portions engageable under the rim of the toilet bowl, a clip for diapers and the like adapted to have clamping engagement with the diaper and to positively retain the diaper from flushing down the toilet, and a linkage connection connecting said clip to said base or said clamp for supportiug said clip to depend within a toilet bowl from the rim thereof and hold the diaper for rinsing by flushing of the toilet, and to depend along the outside of the toilet bowl when not in use comprising a link having a length greater than one half the width of said base pivotally connected to the upper side of said base intermediate the ends thereof for pivotal movement to either side of said base to extend horizontally therefrom and position the free end of said link horizontally beyond either leg of said base, a second link pivotally connected to the free end of said first mentioned link and depending therefrom and having said clip pivotally connected to the free end thereof to depend from said second link upon the positioning of said first link to either side of the toilet bowl.

2. In a holder for diapers and the like, a Ushaped spring clamp having a base and legs extending from opposite sides thereof and biased inwardly toward each other adjacent their outer ends for resilient clamping engagement with the rim of a toilet bowl, a spring clip for diapers and the like comprising two arms pivoted for movement about a common axis intermediate their ends and having facing gripping means at one end of said arms and spring means biasing said arms and gripping meansinto engagement with each other, and a linkage connection connecting said clip to said base for supporting said clip to depend within a toilet bowl from the rim thereof and hold the diaper for rinsing by flushing of the toilet, and to depend along the outside of the toilet bowl when not in use comprising a link pivotally connected to the upper side of said base for pivotal movement to either side thereof to position the free end of said link outwardly beyond either leg of said spring.clamp,.and a wire link having a closed inner end portion pivotally mounted on the free end of said first mentioned link to depend therefrom and having an opposite closed outer end portion extending through the arms of said clip and forming a pivot therefor.
