M I ATTDRNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. REYNOLDS, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE MEILINK MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
SWINGING DESK-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 14, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. REY- NoLDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Swinging Desk-Stand, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment in the form of a stand or platform.
This invention has utility when adapted as a swinging desk stand which maybe rigidly locked in any angular position.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective View looking upward toward the underside of an embodiment of the invention in a swinging desk stand; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of such stand swung away from front of desk; Fig. 3 is a plan view of upper bracket, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of lower bracket.
To a support, as desk 1, may be attached cup-shaped seats for the rod 4. Adjacent this axial corner of frame 5 and extending from the lower side of said frame is angular lug 6, which carries thumb screw 7 operable to clamp curved rim 8 of hinge bracket 2. The square frame 5 has its axial corner sustained by bracket 2, and by set screw 7 this swinging frame may be rigidly locked in any angular position.
Extending to each of the three remote corners of frame 5 is a rod or element 9 firmly riveted in the frame and extending to block 10 where the rods 9 are 'also firmly held. Pivot rod 4 extends through block 10. Hinge bracket 3 is close up against lower side of block 10, thereby renderin frame 5 stiff as to the remote corners, while inge bracket 2 coacts to prevent any play of frame at adjacent or axial corner thereof.
The brackets 2, 3, may be so placed as to height that the top or platform will be in the most convenient position, as for a typewriter, card index boxes, telephone or other purpose, and as these brackets are reversible, attachment may be made at either end of the desk to have the stand swing from front side to an out-of-the-way position as to the worker at the desk. Frame 5 and top 12 are each rectangular, but the former is square while the latter is oblong, thus permitting of combining in two waysto have long way of top 12 parallel When swung into position in front of desk, or have long way of to 12 perpendicular to front line of desk. T hese ad ustments multiply the adaptabilities of the construction, making possible always most advantageous use, and when combined with the clam feature insure that stand will not only be stiff but will stay in any position of adjustment Within the limit of swing. A fixed medial position for the stand is an adjustment most usual for miscellaneous use. There is no vertical vibration permitted in the stand as lug 6 fixes the position of axial corner of frame 5. The stand as a stand is fixed to swing in but the plane in which set, and the independent locking action fixes the position of the stand in this plane against movement in either direction. The structure in its simplicity embodies a maximum of rigidity and strength, making it of exceptional value as an article of oflice furniture.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A platform, a pairof sustaining brackets therefor, a pivot rod extending into the brackets, means rigid with the platform engaging the 'rod and directly coacting with one bracket to sustain a portion of the platform adjacent to the rod, and means rigid with the platform engaging the rod and directly coacting with the other bracket to sustain the portions of the platform remote from the rod.
