To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDREW O. HALTER- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buckhannon, in the county of Upshur and State of West Virginia, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Hospital-Bed Sheets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a hospital bed sheet and consists in the construction and arrangement of arts which will be hereinafter fully descri ed, illustrated in the drawings and particularly pointed out in the claims. 7

One object of my invention is to provide a cheap and convenient method of restraining within comfortable limits sick persons who may be delirious, and insane persons whom it may be necessary to restrain from violent movements, and to prevent them from throwing ofi the bed covers; also children who are in the habit of kicking off the covers while in bed. A further ob'ect, therefore, of m invention is to provi e a strong and durab e rece tacle which is easily managed and readi y arran ed for such persons as I have menti'one above. I am aware that what are termed strait jackets have been provided for the purpose of confining insane patients in one position. My invention is not designed to take the place of strait jackets, but, on the contrary, to give the patient comparatacle for the bed These objects tures re resented in the part of t is application, in which like numerals represent similar parts and in which:

In the drawings, 1 indicates the bedstead orthe couch on which the patient 'or person lies: 2 is the hospital sheet spread over the patient or person in the bed and secured to tive freedom of movement within the recepaccom lish by the strucdfrawings forming a the bedstead by cords 2. The sheet 2 has a tuck 3 across the upper end. This tuck serves as a fastening device for the upper end' of the leaves 4 by means of lacin s 3 in eyelets 3 The lower ends of the eaves 4 are also secured in place by like lacings 3 and eyelets 3 Extending lengthwise of the sheet is an opening 5, provided orr'either side with leaves 4, presuma ly e ual to one-half of the width of the sheet. T ese leaves have eyelets on either side of the opening 5 and are laced to gether by cords or lacings3. Said leaves to extend from about one and one-half feet from the to of the sheet 2 to the bottom.

It will t us be seen that this improved hospital sheet may be safely and securely placed over a patient or erson, ifneed be, secure to the bed by aying the person on the bed and placing my sheet over him and then securing the ends and sides as above described. The person is thereby well and comfortably secured on the bed or couch without harsh or un leasant means. This is the great object o my invention, and one for which there has been a Ion felt want.

1% is found necessary, in the construction and arrangement of my hospital bed sheet, to find plenty of room for the patient and thus .it is found necessary to provide not only a good sized bed or couch but also to construct the sheet so that it can be easily and readily secured to the bed or couch, and also to emerson, and the shown in Figs. 5 and 6. This provision for enlargement of parts will permit of arranging the sheet and its holder to suit the conditions of an person, lar e or small, and thus provide or the long f elt want.

In 0 eration, the sheet having been placed upon t e bed or couch, will be opened on the line 5, and the person to be operated upon placed on top of the bed or couch. This done, the leaves 4 of the sheet placed over the person, loosely 0r tightly as circumstances may require, will befastened by means of the cords, as hereinbefore described.

The ob'ect of this invention is to provide a comforta le bed with a securing cover, so

that persons needing specific treatment may be gently cared for.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters- 5 Patent, is:

As an article of manufacture, ,ahospital bed sheet comprising a main rectangular sheet provided with means to secure the same to the bed orvcouch, a supplemental re- 10 ceptacle formed of longitudinal and laterally 1 closing leaves, means for securing said leaves together, a tuck and means for securing the bottom of the leaves in place, substantially as described.
