Description

PATENTBD JUNE 30, 1908.
L. VYNE. I DEVICE FOR FORMING BELT LAGINGS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 31 1907.
iii:
l w m m m m EPmEM E iL 6 LEONARD VYNE, OF NORTHWILKES BORO, NORTH CAROLINA.
DEVICE FOR FORMING BELT-LACINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 30, 1908.
Application filed August 31, 1907. Serial No. 390,989.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD VINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Northwilkesboro, in the county of Wilkes and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Device for Forming Belt-Lacings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for forming belt lacings, and is designed as an improvement uponan article of this character for which I secured Letters-Patent of the United States dated October 11, 1898, No. 612,070.
The object of the present invention is to improve and simplify the construction of the device illustrated in said patent by dispensing with the employment of the locking pin around which the wire is passed, and the eyes or loops for receiving the locking pin, and in lieu thereof to employ hooked members that shall secure the same results as the locking pin and the eyes but will materially simplify the device and expedite the procedure of forming the lacing members.
IVith the above and other objects in view as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a device for forming belt lacings, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like eharactersof reference indicate corresponding parts,-Figure 1 is aveiw in side elevation of a wire crimping device constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig.2 is a top plan view of a portion thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a supporting frame or bar, which may be of any suitable material, preferably of wood,
. general contour of the bills of the hooks being such as to facilitate the disconnection there from of the wire being kinked or crimped or bent. The member 5 is provided on its upper edge with rectangular tongues 7 which are equal in number to the hooks and are disposed in break-joint order relatively thereto,
that is to say, the terminals of the bills of the hooks will be dis-posed approximately in transverse alinement with the medial lines of the tongues. The tongues, as shown in Fig. 1, are longer than the hooks in order to facilitate the bending of the wire therearound.
In forming the lacing with this im )lement, one end of the wire is suitably held against slipping, is then looped around one of the tongues 7, thence passed across the stock and beneath the adjacent or alined hook, thence over the same, thence around the next succeeding tongue, and so on throughout the series of tongues and hooks. l/Vhen the complete length of lacing is completed, the loops may readily be detached from the hooks and tongues.
The improvements herein defined are simple in character and will be found thoroughly efficient for the purposes designed and will materially simplify the construction of the article and thus measurably reduce the cost of its manufacture.
WVhat is claimed is;
An article of the class described, comprising a bar, and plates secured on the opposite sides thereof, one of which is provided with longitudinally disposed equally spaced rectangular tongues, and the other with a like number of longitudinally dis )osed equally spaced incurvcd hooks, the bi ls of which are at their upper ends, thus to facilitate detachment of the wire therefrom, the spaces between the tongues and the hooks all opening in the same direction, and the terminals of the bills of the hooks being disposed approximately in transverse alinement with the medial lines of the tongues.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LEONARD VYNE.
