To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAnLEs MYRON JONEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Yakima, in the county of Yakima and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Engravers Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to engravers clamps.
The object of the invention is to provide a clamp of this character which shall be pel euliarly adapted for use in firmly holding, without danger of distortion or injury, irl regular shaped articles such as cull links, brooches, pins, thimbles and the like, while j being engraved.
With the above and other objects in view l as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of an engravers clamp as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate correspond ing parts,-
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, partly in section, of a clamp constructed in accordance with the present invention. F 2 is a top plan view. Figs. 3 and 4 are views in side elevation displaying the construction of the pedestals for holding a thimble to be engraved.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the base of an engravers clamp of the ordinary construction and which as usual rests upon a cushion 2. Mounted upon the base are the usual jaws 3 that are caused by a suitable screw, not shown, to approach or recede from each other according to the character of the work to be done.
Supported upon the jaws are pedestals 4 and 5, respectively, each of which carries two pins 6 that are adapted to engage orifices 7 provided in the jaw for the purpose. Each pedestal is provided with a vertical orifice 8, the two orifices being furnished for the reception of studs or pins 9 carried by the supplemental work holding 10 that constitute one of the essential features of this invention.

The jaws are provided with a plurality of 011- fices 14, in this instance six in number, that are arranged concentric with the pins 9, and are adapted to engage with studs 15 projecting upward from the pedestals, whereby the jaws will be held firmly in adjusted position. The inner face of the pedestal 5 is provided with a circular recess 16 that intersects the upper face of the pedestal and is designed to receive the base of a thimble, and the inner face of the pedestal 4 is provided with a dished recess 17 to receive the end of the thimble. By the provision of the recess 16 an article, such as a thimble, may be grasped with its margin exposed, thus to facilitate engraving. Of course it will be understood that when a thimble is being engraved the two jaws 10 will be removed.
-From the foregoing description it will be seen that provision is made for securely retaining in position articles of any shape that it may be desired to be engraved whether they be concave, convex. or fiat or whether their perimeters be curved or angular. Furthermore, that by the provision of the recesses 1.6 and 17 in the opposed faces of the two pedestals a thoroughly efficient means is provided for holding a thimble in position while any portion thereof is being engraved.
What is claimed is In an engravers clamp, a pair of oppositely disposed blocks, pedestals mounted upon said blocks, said pedestals being provided with an elongated recess cylindrical in cross section extending from the top thereof downward, a pin on the upper face of each of said pedestals, work holding jaws each provided with an elongated stud arranged to lie in said recess and further provided with a series of openings concentric to said stud adapted to receive the pin on said pedestal, said stud being of greater length than said pin, whereby the jaws may be lifted from the pin and rotated without removing them from the pedestals.
