Description

No. 889,565. PATENTED-JUNE 2, 1908. A. wmcox.
HAIR .GRIMPER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 30, 1907.
ALBERT WILOOX, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA.
HAIR-GRIMPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1908.
Application filed September so, 1907. Serial No. 395,253.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT WILoox, a citizen of the United States, residing atWheeling, in the county of Ohio, State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iair-Orimpers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to hair crimpers and more particularly that class wherein there are employed three members, two of which are fixed with respect to each other and the third is pivoted between the two for movement to lie therebetween.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved structure wherein the hair may be effectually crimped without breaking.
In the accompanying drawings :'Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, the intermediate member being shown -open. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the intermediate member closed. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the device, and, Fig. 4 is a detail vertical sectional view taken transversely therethrough.
As shown in the drawings, 'the device comprises a pair of flat side members '5 which are secured together side to side at one of their ends and have their opposite ends connected by means of a pivot 6. This pivot 6 serves to pivot between the two members a third member which is indicated by the numeral 7. This third member is concaved in each side as indicated at 8 and has its longitudinal edges rounded as indicated at 9. In other words, the member 7 has the contour of a figure 8 in transverse section as is clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, From the foregoing it will be understood that the hair is wound around the member 7 and that the member is then swung into position between the members 5 and allowed to remain in this position until the hair has become sufficiently crimped. It will further be understood that by reason of the fact that the longitudinal edges of the member 7 are rounded, the hair will not be broken but will be given the proper wavy effect.
It is to be noted from an ins ection of the drawings and more particular y Fig. 3 that the ends of the members 5 are connected side to side as has heretofore been stated and that the members 5 gradually approach each other from the opposite end to this end and that when the member 7 is swung into position between the said members 5 its free or outer end will be frictionally received between the members 5 and securely held in place.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a pair of members connected in fixed relation, and a third member pivoted between the first mentioned members, the said third member being concaved longitudinally throughout its entire length and having its edges convexed.
2. A device of the class described comprising a pair of flat-sided members connected in fixed relation, and athird member pivoted between the first mentioned members, the said third member being concaved longitudinally and throughout its entire length and along its middle.
3. A device of the class described comprising a pair of members connected in fixed relation, and a third member pivoted between the said first mentioned members, the said third member being of less thickness at its middle and throughout its entire length than adjacent its edges.
4. A device of the class described comprising a pair of members connected in fixed relation, and a third member pivoted between the said first mentioned members, the said third member being of less thickness at its middle and throughout its entire length than adjacent its edges, the said member having its said edges rounded throughout their extent.
5. A device of the class described comprising a pair of members connected in fixed relation, and a third member pivoted between the first mentioned members, the last mentioned member being grooved longitudinally throughout its sides.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT WILCOX.
Witnesses HENRY OERTERLE, CHAS. WILoox.
