Description

PATENTED JUNE 2,1908. c. G. DAVIS.
STOVE LEG. APPLICATION FILED DBO. 28, 1907.
witness EIERS ca, wnsumnwn, n. c.
CLEVELAND G. DAVIS, OF MANISTEE, MICHIGAN.
STOVE-LEG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1908.
Application filed December 28, 1907. Serial No. 408,417.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLEVELAND G. DAVIS, citizen of the United States, residin at Manistee, in the county of Manistee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Legs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in stove legs and the object of the invention is an improved caster which is designed to be attached to a stove leg to adapt the stove to be easily trundled when desired, and which may be conveniently raised and held in" a novel manner out of operative position in order to render the stove stationary after it has been set in place.
With this and other objects in view that will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists .in certain constructions and arrangements of parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying'drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove showing my improved stove legs applied thereto. stove leg showing the caster in an operative position. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the caster in raised position.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
My improved caster is described and illustrated in connection with a stove leg A, and comprises a relatively broad supporting arm 1 which is preferably constructed of suitable spring material and is formed at one end with a sleeve 2 by means of which it is pivotally mounted on a bolt 3 extending across the inner face of the stove leg A and secured be tween the sides thereof. A on ped disk 4 is rigidly secured to the other end of the arm 1 and is designedto receive the foot of the stove leg. To the bottom of this disk is secured a plate 5, and a caster frame 6 carrying Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a a caster proper 7, is swiveled to the said plate, anti-friction bearings 8 being interposed between the plate and the caster rame, as shown.
In order to remove the caster from operative position, the adjacent end of the stove is raised and the cupped disk is sprung out of engagement with the foot of the stove leg, as is permitted by the spring construction of the supportin arm. The device is swung upwardly unti it is received in the interior chamber of the stove leg, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, and is then wedged between the upper end of the stove leg and the bolt, such wedging obviously bowing the spring arm which thus exerts its tension to hold the device securely in its raised position. In this raised position the caster is substantially out of sight and will not tear a broom when sweeping or otherwise get in the way.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In combination with a stove leg,a device of the character described comprising a spring su porting arm pivotally connected at one en to the stove leg, a disk secured to the other end of said arm, and a caster mounted on the disk, said device being designed to be wedged between the pivoted end of the arm and the upper end of the stove leg, as
and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with a stove leg, a device of the character described comprising, a bolt secured to the stove leg, a spring sup orting arm formed at one end with a seeve mounted on said bolt, a disk secured to the other end of the arm and designed for operative engagement with the foot of the stove leg, and a caster attached to the disk, said device being adapted to be wedged between the upper end of the stove leg and the bolt whereby to hold the caster in an ino erative position, as and for the urt gse set orth.
In testimony whereof I a my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLEVELAND G. DAVIS. Witnesses;
