Description
PATENTED MAY 12, 1908.
E. WERNER. EoLDER EoR TOWELS, RAEKINS, R0. APPLIUATIOH FILED FEB; 28, 1907.'
I To all whomfit may concern:
lumrlrn STAT-Es PATENT oFFIoE.
EMIL WERNER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOB. '10F NE-HALF T yJOSEPH FREEMAN, F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.`
, nomma ron TOWELS, Narxme, am.
Specification of Letteors Patent.
Patented May 12,1908.
Be it knownxthat I, EMILWERNE, a citizen ofthe United States,.residing in the cit and county of Philadel hia, State of Pennsy vania, have invente a new and useful Holder for Towels, Napkins, &c., of which the following isla specification.
My invention relates Pto devices of that class adapted to hold al towel, napkin, etc. thereon, the same embod g a plate provided with' aws, with whiciili; pro er portion of the towe etc. may engagingly ite and be tightened thereon, and llkewlse provided wlth means for holding the device in desired position, as 'will be hereinafter definitely described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims. v
Figure-1re resents a front elevation of a holder embo ying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof on line .fn-2:. Fig. 3 represents a front elevation of another form of a holder embodying my invention. Fig. 4 represents a vertica section thereof, on line Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the gures.
Referri 0' to the drawings: A designates a plate, in w ich is the lo tudinally extending slit B, the walls of which are thrown out, forming the rearwardly extending jaws C, C, which converge downwardly.
In the up er portiorrof the plate is the throat D, W ich is in communication with the slit B between the/jaws C, said thro'at being adapted for the-primary reception of a portlon o a towel, napkin, etc., as will be ereinafter explained.
It will be noticed that the jawsC are inturned and extend in the longitudinal direction of the plate from the end of the latter opposite from and upward to the throat, the space between the inner edges of said jaws converging from a point at said end to said throat. l
In the plate, are openings E, to receive screws F, by which the plate may be secured -in position on a wall or elsewhere.
On the lower portion of the plate, is a hook G on which other articles may be sustained when so re uired.
It will be seen tlat a portion of a towel, napkin, etc., is gathered and inserted in the 'I -throat D, and then ushedl or drawn downwardly into the slit when the part of the towel in contact with the .j aws C en age with the same, the athered portion of t e towel, etc. being bac' of said jaws, itubeing seen thatthe weight of the towel, etc. or outward `draft on the same serves .to vtighten the 'hold of the jaws on the towel, etc., the hold said jaws, and thus the towe etc. will be firmly held, permitting it to be used without disconnection from the plate.
When it is desired to remove the towel, etc., it is slipped upwardly, whereby as the jaws diverge,l the relative portion of the towel, etc. 1s readily ldisconnected from the jaws, and when the gathered portion of the towel reaches the throat, it may be drawn through the same, thus entirely disengaging it from the plate.
In Figs. 3 and 4, the plate is shown as formed withv a recess H which is in com- `munication with 'the throat D, and provides means for sus ending the plate from a hook such as at J Fig. 4, a button or other device as desired.
.Attention is particularly directed to the fact tha-t the jaws are somewhat resilient in their nature, whereby they close against the towel etc. when the latter is applied thereto, and as the edges of the jaws converge downwardly, theymore firmly bite the contiguous 1portion of the towel, and thus forward dis acement of the towel etc. is prevented.
aving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder of the character stated, consisting of a plate having a throat at one end thereof and inturned"jaws extending in the longitudinal direction of said plate from the end of the latter opposite from and upward to said throat, the space between the inner edges of said jaws converging from said end to said throat.
2. A holder of the character stated, consisting of a late having resilient jaws extended angu arly therefrom and converging to a point at one end,-and a throat at the opposite end communicating with the tapered s pace between the jaws and having a recess 1n communication with the throat.
increasing owing. to the converglng nature of' 3. A holder of the character stated, conto said throat7 there 'being a recess at the sisting of a plate having a throat at one end upper end of the plate in communication thereof and inturned jaws extending in the W1th said throat. longitudinal direction of said plate from the EMIL WERNER.A
, end of the latter opposite from andI upward Witnesses:
to said throat7 the space between the inner JOHN A. WIEDERsHEIM, edges of said jaws converging from sald end WM. CANER WIEDERSEIM.
