My invention relates to a towel holder wherein means is providedto hold a towel so that it will afdjustably receive the fabric of the towel without injury to the same and without making it necessary to attach the towel to the holder by a loop or other means heretofore used. j

I The invention includes resilient means in the form of smooth balls held together by spring pressure to cause the same to rotate and give sufficiently to admit the thickness of the towel between the holding arms.

A feature of the invention resides in an inexpensive structure,'yet one which'is attractive in design and very effective for the purpose of holding a towel or other articles of this nature in a convenient position to be easily and readily removed from the holder.

Heretofore towel holders have been -designed of various constructions andordinarily are formed with hooks and other means whereby it is necessary to provide a loop on the towel which is hooked over the arm of the supporting hook. Here it is necessary to raise the towel to unhook it from the support and many times it is not convenient to do so, and the towel is merely jerked off,

leaving the loop on the hook and tearing the towel.

In carrying out .myinvention I provide a holding means of a nature wherein the rigid arms of the support are inverted and holding means is interposed between the arms of a resilient nature so that the towel or article can be readily introduced between the same and when the towel is wanted it can be snapped out of holding position without any injury whatsoever to the same. This is quite essential in the proper holding, of a hand towel or other towels, where it is desired to hold them in a manner so that they will readily dry. In fact, by the use of two or more of my holders a towel can be held straight across between the same, spread out so that it will dry much more easily than where it is hung over a towel rail and where it must be folded double to hold itself upon the same. My towel holder is very effective in the bathroom in holding any kind of a towel or wash cloth, and the fact that it is so easily operated adds to the material advantage of the same.

My towel holder A is provided with a base portion 10 from which" extend attaching flanges 11 and 12, so that by the screws 13 the towel holder'A is rigidly attached to the wall or otherwise supported. Extending from the base 10 of the towel holder A I provide an arm 14 which curves in a mannerso as to form a circular opening 15 between thearm 1 1 and the base 10 into which the body .or edge of the towel supported by the holder A is adapted to extend. The arm 14 is formed with a recess 16 into which the holding ball 17 is positioned. A guard end 18 is formed projecting outwardly from the ball holding recess to guide the edge of the towel against the ball 17.

Projecting from the base 10 I provide a boss 19 which is adapted to support the holding ball 20. The ball 20 is adapted to be held in the recess 21 and by means of the spring 22 the ball 20 is held against the ball 17 to normally close the opening 23 into the opening 15 between the arm 14 and'boss 19. The balls 17 and 20 are adapted to rotate freely upon the insertion of the edge of a towel B and the ball 20;is resiliently supported by the spring 22 so that the towel W1ll Sl1p between the balls very freely with the edge of the same into the opening 15. Thus my towel holder receives towels or fabric articles very adaptably without inury to the fabric of the most delicate nature and very easily. The towel is held firmly between the balls 17 and 20 so that it will not drop out of its own weight or become too easily disengaged. When desired the towel can be had by drawing it out of the holder A as quickly as desired, so that it may be fairly snapped out of the holder without any injury to the towel.

WVhen made of aluminum or of other suitable material'and polish-ed or nickel-plated they have a very attractive appearance, so that my towel holder is not only of a simple nature, but has the attraction to make an appeal a .very neat and practical fixture, either in the bathroom or about the home.

In accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of my invention and while the drawings illustrate the holder of a particular formation, I desire toihave it, understood that-the same is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other designs and formations and applied to means other than those above set forth Within the scope of the following claims.- 7

I- claim:

1. A. towel holder including a member having an opening therein adapted to receive the edge of a towel, a rigid arm forming one side of said opening, a boss projecting toward said arm, said arm being adapted to support a ball bearing and said boss being adapted to support another ball bearing in a manner to provide a resilient ball bearing grip. between said boss and arm for holding a towel.

2. A towel holder having a body portion adapted to be supported upon the Wall, an

arm rigidly connected With and extending from said body portion, a recess in said arm, a ball adapted to be positioned in said recess, a boss extending from the body portion tovvard said arm, a ball receiving recess formed in said boss, a ball bearing adapted to be supported therein and resilient means adapted tohold said ball against the ball bearing supported in said arm, whereby a ball bearing grip holder is provided.

3. A towel holder including a base portion,,an arm extending from said base portion, a freely rotatable ball seated in said arm, a freely rotatable ball positioned in said base, and resilient means urging said last mention-ed ball against said first mentioned ball.
