SECURING DEVICE FOR WRITING-TABLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 190s.
Application filed December 13, 1907. Serial No. 406,347.
5, invented an Improved Securing Device for Writing-Tables, of which the following is a speciiication.
The object of the present invention is a securing device for writing tables, in which a number of drawers are simultaneously locked by means of a rod provided with hooks. When the desk provided in the table is pushed in, the hooks catch in eyes provided at the backs of the drawers.
The present invention differs from previous inventions in that the desk which moves the rod with the hooks, is kept closed by a rod actuated by a drawer which is locked by means of a key so that for opening a drawer provided with an eye, it is necessary, after unlocking the locked drawer, to manipulate by hand two sets of releasing devices.
In the accompanying drawing is shown .i the object oi the present invention.
Figure 1 is a section ofthe writing table on mwa; Fig. 2, with the desk drawn slightly out. Fig. 2 shows a front elevation of the securing device, the writing table being a section on y-y, Fig. l, the drawers being shown in strokes and dots. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on z-z Fig. 2.
The writing table A is provided with a desk B which can be drawn out to the front. Underneath this desk are two drawers C and above it, at both sides of the desk, a number of drawers D. In the upper frame of the table are two movable rods a which are connected together in the known manner by rods al, the upper ends of the rods a being guided in guides l) and the lower ends thereof in guides c, iixed to the table. To each rod a, is connected an abutting piece d which is pivotally mounted on a pin in bearings f iixed to the rod a, which said piece CZ when pushing back the desk B, is pushed downwards by a sliding piece e iixed to the desk B, thus raising the rods a. T o the drawers C and D, are fixed angle irons il, t2, i3, which have slots in their horizontal sides.
When the drawers are closed, and the desk B is pushed back, thus raising the rods a, hooks Ztl, h2, h3 fixed to the rods a, catch into the slots and thus hold the drawers in a locked position. When the desk B is again pulled out, the abutting pieces d are released from the sliding pieces e, so that the rods a together with the hooks h1, h2, h3 descend so that the drawers can again be opened.
Above the desk B is another drawer E, which is locked by means of a key, by means of which the writing desk and thereby the whole table is kept locked. To the back of the desk, is fixed an angle iron Zr, whose long, horizontal side is provided with anaperture 1" and projects when the desk B is in its closed osition, into an opening provided in the.
back wall of the writing table A. Above the back wall Z is a rod o, whose upper end is guided in an arm g, and the lower end in the wall Z, said end projecting lower than the opening for the angle iron k. The rod o is at its upper end provided with a shoulder 01, whose upper surface slopes downwards towards the drawer E.
When the drawer E and the bolt fm, which latter projects over the shoulder o1, havebeen pulled out, the rod o is raised by a spring p mounted on the back wall Z, thus releasing the angle iron lc, and thereby the desk B. Above the drawer E, the bolt m is movably mounted, and when the drawer E is being closed, an abutting piece n iixed thereto pushes the bolt m back so that it slides on the shoulders 01, thus pushing down the rod 0, so that if the desk B vis closed, it passes through the angle iron, thus locking the desk B.
The bolt m can be fixed to the abutting piece n, so that when the drawer E is opened, the bolt is also pulled out, or which is more advantageous, it can be pulled vout by hand after the drawer E has been opened,'ai'ter which the spring p raises the rod 0, thus releasing the desk B. The back of the writing table is formed by awall F so that the various 1Iparts for keeping the desk closed, are invisi- In order to entirely lock the table, the drawer E and the desk B are pulled out, the other drawers are pushed back then the desk is pushed back and then also the drawer E which latter is then locked by means of a key.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A securing device for locking tables, comprising in combination, a table, a desk provided in the table, drawers in the table under the desk, drawers at both sides of the desk, a drawer which is locked by a key above the desk, guides iixed to the table, rods connected by rods guided in the guides, hooks fixed to the rods angle irons provided with slots fixed to the drawers, the hooks ada ted to eateh in the slots, bearings fixed tot e rods, abutting pieces pivotally mounted in the bearings, a sliding piece fixed to the desk, a back wall provided with an opening, at the back of the table, an arm fixed to the table, a rod guided in the arm and back wall, spring mounted on the back wall, said spring ad apted to raise the rod, a shoulder provided at the upper end of the rod, an angle iron provided with an aperture fixed to the desk, said angle iron projecting into the opening in the back wall, a movable bolt mounted above the drawer locked by a key, said bolt adapted to slide on the should er on the rod guided in the back wall, an abutting piece inside the said drawer, said abutting piece adapted to push back the movable bolt, 'a wall closing .the back of the table, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses:
