N APKIN-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 21, 1908.
Application filed March 28, 1907. Serial No. 365,203.
To all whom it may-concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES H. FORD and EUGENE H.- BOSTON, citizens of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Wayne and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and'useful Im rovements in N apkin-Holders, of which t e following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders, and more particularly to holders for napkins, and has for its object to provide a device of this kind by which a na kin may be securely and quickly attacher' to the clothing, thus obviating the necessity of tucking it into the neck or pockets. V 7
Another object is to provide a holder of this kind which will be sim 1e and cheap, and
V which may be carried in t re pocket.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without de arting from the spirit of the invention.
n the drawings forming a portion of this specification andin which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts iii the several views: Figure 1 is an enlarged elevational view of thepresent invention, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal. section showing a napkin engaged in the holder, Fig. 3 is a transverse section through one of the clips on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to thedrawings, the present invention comprises an elongated member 5 which is' circular in cross section and which, adjacent to one end is bent laterally at a slight angle, as shown at 6.
A clip 6 is provided for each end of themember, these clips each consisting of a concavo-convex plate having side tabs 7, which are oppositely disposed, These clips receive the end-portions of the member 5in their concavities with their tabs at opposite points diametrically of the member, and engaged in these tabs and the member are pivotpins 8 upon which the clips are thus arranged to move to bring their outer ends into and out of engagement with the member. Springs 9 are engaged-between the inner ends of the member 5 adjacent to the ends thereof and.
circumferentially of the member 5, and these grooves are disposed to receive therewithin ribs 11 which are stamped inwardly from the clips toward the member, thus presentiu rounded surfaces to engage fabric disposer between the clips and the member, as shown at 12.
It will of course be understood that'a napkin 12 is to be engaged in one of the clips, while the other is engaged with the clothing of the user.
What is claimed is:
1. In a napkin holder, the combination with an elongated cylindrical member, said member having transverse grooves adjacent to its nds, of clips pivotcd upon the member one 8A jacent to each end, said clips having their outer end portions crimped to present inwardly directed ribs, said ribs being lo cated for enga ement in the grooves of the elongated meln )er, and springs arranged to hold the clips yieldably with their ribs in the grooves of the member.
2. As an article of manufacture, a na )kin holder comprising a cylindrical member having a transverse groovcthcrcin, a clip formed of a piece of metal curved transversely to present a concavity for the reception of the cylindrical member, said clip having tabs disposed opposite to each other and located at opposite sides of the member, pivot pins engaged in the member and in the tabs, said clip havim one end crimped to present an inwardly 1 irected rib for engagement in the groove of the member, and a spring arranged to hold the clip yieldably with its rib in the groove.
In testimony whereof we aliix our signatures, in presence of two witnesses.
