To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK TYNrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glenallen, in the county of Henrico, State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Case Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention has reference to improvements in show case constructions, such improvements residing generally in the particular formation, arrangement, and association of the various parts of the case itself, in the specific form of clamps employed for securing together the glass plates which comprise the front, sides, and top of the case, and in the particular devices employed for rendering the case dust-proof.

The invention more especially resides in the provision of a show case in which the dust-proofing devices are in the form of channeled metal strips, U-shaped in crosssection, which are fitted upon the front and rear edges of the side plates and upon the upper edges of the latter and of the front p ates, the channels in said strips being adapted to receive material.

The invention will be readily understood from a consideration of the following detailed description of its preferred embodiment which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. 1

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the case is shown as comprising a Wooden base or bottom member, 1, glass side, front, and

top members

2, 3, and 4 respectively, and a wooden back member 5, the last-mentioned member being preferably provided with doors (not shown) by means a cord of any preferred be hadto the interior of ther supported in such position and connected with each other by means of clamps located at their meeting corners. These clamps, as shown in Fig. 4, each comprise spaced outer and inner V-shaped metal straps 8 and 9 which fit flush against the faces of the corresponding plates at the top edges thereof and are connected together adjacent their apices by a bolt 10, and towards their ends by threaded rotatable bolts 11 which pass through registering openings formed in said straps.

The head of each bolt 11 is disposed adjacent the inner strap 9 while the end of its shank projects beyond the outer strap 8 and carries at such point a nut 12. The shank of each bolt 11 likewise passes through a threaded o ening formed in the downbent inner end of the lower arm or shank of a fiattened rectangular clamping hook 13, which hooks are thus disposed at right angles to each other and to the adjacent arins of the straps 8 and 9. These hooks are adapted to catch overthe edge and margin of the glass top 4 of the case, which member fits between the shankand bill portions of the hooks, the latter portion of each hook being somewhat shorter than the former. By reason of this construction, and the formation of rectangular seats 14 in the upper edges of theglass sides and front in which the bolts 11 and the depending ends of the hooks are disposed, it will be apparent that when the top is engaged by the hooks and the bolts 11 are rotated, the hooks will be tightly clamped against the top, thus holding the same in its proper position upon the case and preventing its displacement from such position. To prevent lateral movement of the hooks the shank portions thereof are adapted to fit in rectangular seats 15 formed in the upper edges of the arms of the outer straps 8. Prior, however, to the attachment of the top plate, the dust-proofing devices are fitted upon the edges of the side and front plates. These devices, as originally stated, are in the form of sheet metal strips 16 each of which has a longitudinal channel 17 formed in. its outer face and extending from end to end thereof, the longitudinal edges of the stri s being bent at right angles to the plane of t 1e strips to form lateral flanges 18 which fit against the opposite faces of the glass. The horizontal strips which fit upon the u per edges of the sides and front of the case iave their meeting ends mitered, as indicated by the numeral 19, the rear end of each side stri extending across the upper edge of the bac 5, against the outer face of which said end is bent and fastened.

The strips which are fitted on the front edges of the sides have their lower ends bent laterally and rearwardly so as to extend beneath the lower edges of the sides and fit in the space between the ribs 6. Each of the last-mentioned 'strips has its upper end slightly cut away at opposite sides, and the free end of this reduced portion is curved, as indicated by the numeral 20, so as to fit around the bolt 10 which connects the members of the corner clamps, the corners of the meeting edges of the front and side plates adjacent said curved end being provided with seats 21. The several strips are held in place u on the corresponding plates by means of putty or some similar sealing compound. The channels with which said strips are rovided are formed for the reception of cor s 22, which may be of elastic or inelastic material, as preferred, the single cord located in the channels in the top strip having its oposite ends secured to the wooden back 5, while the cord carried by each vertical strip has one end fastened to the curved end thereof, while its other end is passed beneath the bent end of said strip and secured thereto. These cords, when in proper place, serve to completely prevent the entry of dust between the top plate and the front and side plates, and between the meeting edges of the astementioned plates and the front plate, as will be a parent. The top plate is further held in pl ace by means of side clamps, each of which, as shown in Fig. 6, consists of a V- shaped inner metal strap 23 and a straight outer strap 24, connected together by a threaded bolt 25 whose shank passes through a perforation formed in the depending end of a clamping hook 26 similar to the hooks 13 above described, rotation of said bolt effecting a corresponding movement of the hook, as in the preceding instance. The rear arm of each strap 23 is bolted to the wooden back.

Where the case is of more than average length, a front clamp comprising a pair of flat members 27 may be employed, said members fitting flush against the faces of the front plate 2 and being connected together by a threaded bolt 28 u on which a' clamping hook 29 is mountec. When the side and front clamps are made use of, the upper edges of the corresponding plates are provided with seats similar to the seats 14 above referredto. The outer side flanges of the several top strips are likewise provided with seats 31 in which the shank portions of the clamping hooks fit. The back of the case may, if desired, have secured thereto a vertical clamp 32 whose upper end extends across the rear edge of the top plate. This clamp, however, is employed only where the rear edge of the top plate is approximately flush with the outer face of the back member 5 of the case. The glass sides and front of the case are rotected against injury from the corres onding clam s by means of thin strips of ru ber 33 which are interposed between the faces of said plates and the adjacent clamp members.

What is claimed is:

1. A show-case including glass front, side, and top plates, clamps located at the meeting corners of the front and side plates for connecting the same together, each clamp including a pair of spaced angular members and a fastening bolt, metal strips secured to the forward edges of the side plates and hav ing their upper ends engaged with said bolts, and cords carried by said strips, to prevent the entry of dust between the front and side plates.

2. A show-case including glass front, side, and top plates, clamps located at the meeting corners of the front and side plates for connecting the same together, each clamp including a pair of spaced angular members and a fastening bolt, channeled metal strips secured to the forward edges of the side plates and having their upper ends engaged with said bolts, and cords carried by said strips and fitted in the channels therein, to prevent the entry of dust between the front and side plates. 4

3. A show-case including glass front, side, and top plates, clamps located at the meeting corners of the front and side plates for connecting the same together, each clamp including a pair of spaced angular members and a fastening bolt, channeled metal strips secured to the forward edges of the side plates, said strips having their upper ends bent around said bolts and their lower ends extending beneath the lower edges of the side plates, and cords carried by said strips, to prevent the entry ofdust between the front and side plates.

4. The combination, in a show-case, of glass side, front, and top plates, and clamps carried by the side and front plates and including each a pair of flat metal members fitting against the opposite faces of said plates, a threaded rotatable bolt connecting said members, and a hook carried by said bolt and adapted for engagement with the adjacent edge of the top plate.
