To. aZZ-,whomiitmay concern:
. Be it lmown that LKATH'ARINE A. MCIN- TmEaciti zen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State'- of Virginia, have invented an Attachment for Slip er's, of which the following is a fulland compete specification. The primary object of my` invention is to provide av simple and inexpensive device 'which maybe readily attached to a slipper or other low uartered shoe and will embrace the heel of t 'e foot of the wearer and will hold theheel portion of the slipper or shoe closely' j on the foot.'
with vthis principal Object it View the invention contemplates the provision of a spring clip comprising an attaching plate and --oppos1te spring members o f dierent lengths t terminating in inclined engaging fingers,
, embrace and hgh whereby' the attaching plate will fit within the shoe at the heel portion thereof and dispose the spring members so that they will tlykigclamp the narrowed por- `tionof the hee ofthe foot below the ankle bones, all as hereinafter fully described and claimed. l
lIII thel accompanying drawings, which .form a part of this .speciicatlont Figure 1 is a sideview'illustrating the application of my invention, the rear part of the slipper bving ip; 1g.
I' 2 is a transverse sectionalview through the that sai slipper'and holding clip. -F ig.v 3 is a detail 1 pers ective view of the spring-clip.
i" L1 e numerals of reference parts in the several iigures of thev drawings.
i vIn carrying out my invention I make up? the clip of a single piece of spring metal shapedtoprovide an attaching platev 5,",and
atopposite sides of the plate -upwardlypro- 'jectmg curved members 6 4terininat-ing at' theirl ends in laterally projecting inclined portions or lingers 7, Whioli'latter are slightly curved, forthe pur ose hereinafter stated. V
In forming the evice the attaching plate 5 thereof is of a shape and size correspondingapproximately with the heel portion of the inner sole of the slipper or shoe, that is to lsay curved at the rear end and having the sides sli htly converging from that end, so
heel portion of the inner sole will lie directly upon this plate. The spring members 6 are curved outwardly and in- Vwardly so as to conform approximately to `the lower partl of the heel'of a foot'and'are of Ydierent lengths to conform to the difference height of the 'inner ankle-bones, Y pre1' @Cima P0f` and the terminal laterally tions or fingers 7 areYK :curyed l shown, so as to conform-to V foot immediately below; e, eQan the narrowest portion,I ithe heelf In attaching the device. ,th hee the inner sole of the up and the ldevice 'planetywithinthe` `i so that the attachinl plateyiilllrestiupon the bottom thereof 'rectlyabot lthe heel,
pper
through holes 9 in saidfplatfl "lhe,"inner sole 1s then replaced vllying overthe `attaching plate of the device, and the spring members 6 will then be disposed near the op osite sides of the upper so that the heel of tliie foot will pass between said members as it enters the slipper or shoe. It will be understood that the spring members of the clip are of thin metal and therefore do not grip the heel with such force as gagement being only sufficient to hold the heel portion of the slipperor shoe up against the foot in walking. It vwill be noted, also, that by providinga thin attaching plate which is of the same size as the heel portion of the inner sole, and placing it under the latter, a smooth unbroken surface will be provided for the heel of the foot to rest upon.
The devices will be made of sizes 'to be attached to slippers or low-quartered shoes y. of the conventional styles, and may be apindicatel 'like' as a'f'separate article to be attached by the plied 4in making the slippers or shoes or sold purchaser or by the dealer.
`.Having thus described my invention, what claim 4as new, and desire tovsecure by LettersfjPatent, is
laiAn `attachment for slippers or'shoes, coinprising'a heel-shaped attaching plate and vupwardly-projecting spring members of d if- .ferent lengths'located at the opposite edges the foot, said upwardly-projecting members terminating in heel engaging portions, substantially as shown and described.
2. An attachment for slippers or shoes, comprisingan attaching plate adapted to iit within and substantially conform to the heel portion of the slipper or shoe, spring members of different lengths projecting upwardly from the side edges of the attaching plate and curved to conform to the lower portion ofytheheel of the foot, -andwlaterally and is secured by nails, orscrewsnvhich pass thereof and 'curved to conform to the heel of to be uncomfortable to the wearer, the 'enf' projecting ngers at the opposite sides of the upper ends of the spring members, said fingers being inclined and adapted to engage anl attachment therefor comprising an at` taching plate of the same size as the heel portion of the inner sole and provided with holes for the attaching means, spring members projecting upwardly lat the opposite side edges of the attaching plate and curved to conform to the lower portion of the heel of the foot, and laterally projecting curved portion or ingers at the upper ends of said s ring members and adapted to engage the sides of the foot below the ankle, the attaching plate of the device being disposed under the inner sole.
4. In combination with a slipper or shoe p including 'the inner sole thereof, f an attachment comprising an attaching plate pf thev same size' as the heel portionof the inner sole and provided with holes for the attaching means, spring `members of different lengths projecting upwardly at the opposite side edges of the attaching plate and each curved to correspond Yto the opposite sides of the heel of the foot and to extend to a point below the ankle bone, respectively, and laterally projecting curved portions or fingers iat the upper ends of the spring members adapted to engage the sides of the foot immediately below the ankle, the attaching plate being disposed under the inner sole of the shoe, as herein shown and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
