Description
No. 883,644. PATBNTBD MAR. 31, 1908. F.YS.JOLLY.V k
.'L1NE HOLDER." APPLICATION FILED 1130.1}, 1907.
PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK S. JOLLY, 0F McFALL, MISSOURI.
LINE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 31, 1908.
Application filed December 11, 1907. Serial No. 406,111.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK S. JOLLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at McFall, in the county of Gentry and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Line-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvementsin attachments to harnesses for holding lines when done up.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of arts which will be hereinafter fully described and in the appended claims. I
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying-drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which:
igure 1 is a side elevation showing the device to one side of the dle of a harness. Fig. 2 is an edge view. Fig. 3 is a' detail view showing the device 'attached from the ring and illustrating a slight modification. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the line holder showing the modified form of the catch, and Fig. 51s a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fi 1.
Reference now eing had to the details of the' drawings by letter, A designates the saddle of a harness and B the rings for guiding the reins.
0 desi nates my improved line holder which is orked having two arms, the lower ends of. which are slightly concaved as at D and apertured for the reception of a pin E, which latter is preferabl threaded at one end and engages a threa ed aperture in one of said arms. The shank portlon of the ring is provided with an a erture for the reception of said pin whicfi forms a pivot upon which the member turns. Said member is provided with a s ring catch F, having a utton projectin t rou h an aperture in the head of the mem er and the free end of said application of my sa catch is positioned so as to engage one organother of the indentations Hgformed in the then specifically defined circumference of the ring whereby the meml ber may be held at different inclinations i with reference to the ring. It will be noted l that said member straddles the ring and is provided with a laterally rojecting hook K, which latter is provided or the pur ose of holding the inside check strap whic does not pass through the inside ring. slig t modification of the catch in which the latter, instead of being pointed as shown in Fig. 2, is provided adapted to engage with slits or milling formed on the outer marginal edge of the ring B. Said modified form of catch is held by a spring so as to engage the notches or milling in the same manner as shown in Fig. 2.
In operation, when the device is adjusted for use, it assumes the position shown in solid lines in Fig. l and is adapted to receive and hold not in use, may be thrown to the position shown in dotted lines and out of the way of the rein which may pass through the ring.
What I claim is 1. A device for holding reins comprising, in combination with a ring provided with indentations upon its outer circumference, a forked member pivotally mounted upon the ring, and means carried by the member for engagement with the indentations upon the ring, as set forth.
2. A device for holding reins comprising, in combination with a ring providedwith indentations upon the outer circumference, a forked member pivotally mounted upon the ring, and a spring 'actuated catch carried 'by said member and adapted to engage indentations in the ring, as set forth.
3.' A. device for holding reins comprisin in combination with a ring provided Wit indentations upon the outer circumference, a forked member pivotally mounted upon the ring, a spring-actuated catchcarried by saidmember and adapted to'engage indentations in the ring, and said member having a laterally projecting hook, as set forth.
In testimony signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK S. JOLLY.
