' To all whom a zen of the United States of America, residj is a view of the end of a modified form of the metal, preferably non-corrosive, 1s folde view in perspective UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK S. DAVIS, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
FAUCET ATTACHMENT.
- A uomon'mea 0am: 7,
may concern: Be it known that I, FRANK S. DAVIS, a citiing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michi an, have invented .certain new and useful Im rovements in Faucet Attachments, of whic the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. v
This invention relates to an attachment for afaucet and especiall to a device which can be easily secured wlthout' tools to any form of stop-cock in ordinary domestic use and which obviates the splashing and s rinkling usually incident to the dischar e t erefrom, without materially impeding tiie flow orcausing back pressure in the faucet and connections. I
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in theappended clalms.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a of a preferred form of the invention. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of a faucet with the attachment inserted. Fig. 3
device.
As herein illustrated, a thin strip of sprin into a series of deep, transverse corrugations 1 for the major portion of its length, and this portion. is bent into a closed, circular hoo the end corrugations being either abutte or hooked into each other, and the smooth portion 2 being bent in a segmental arm partially encircling the hoop.
In the modified form, the entire strip is corru ated and bent into a closed hoop.
Eit er form may be expanded or contracted by overlapping the ends with one, two or more pairs of corrugations engaged, so thatthe diameter of the attachment is slightly, greater than the diameter of a faucet for which it is intended;.by sli htly compressin it with the fin ers, it maybe readily pushe into place, and when released, it expands suf- Specification of Letters Patent.
- fiat spring metal and frictionally Patented March a1, 1908. 1907. Serial No. 396,185. 1
ficiently to retain its position. It is as easily removed for cleaning.
Two or more'ears 3 may be formed on one out edge of the strip, preferably by strikin lugs thereon and turning them outwar yto revent the pushing of the attachment too ar into a faucet.
The division of the stream by the thin cross walls arrests its whirling, scattering motion and causes it to issue in a solid uiet column which does not spatter or sp ash. The attachment does not impede the flow sufficiently to appreciably diminish the velocity of volume or to occasion back pressure in the faucet or connections.
The device is readily made and is practically'indestructible and adjustable to any ordinary form of water cock.
, What I claim as my invention is 1. A faucet attachment consisting of a strip provided with a plurality of transverse corrugations and bent into a hoop, the folds of the-opposite ends of the corrugated ortion being ada ted to be adjustably inteil ter of the hoop may be changed, and the hoop being adapted to be compressed within engage 'the mouth of a faucet.
2. A faucet attachment consisting of a fiat 'sprin metal strip provided with a plurality of eep transverse corrugations for a ortion of its length and bent mto a closed oop with the end corru ations adjustabl interlocked in a smooth l ap joint and wit the smooth portion of the stri bent into a segmental spring arm partia y encircling the hoop, the whole bein adapted to be secured in the mouth of 'a aucet by frictional en agement therewith. l
n testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK S. DAVIS.
