STOCKING-GAP.

Our invention relates to a device; which we have designated as a stockin cap, which is ada ted to'be placed aroun the upper part 0 a stocking eg to reinforce it and to prevent its being cut and torn by the stockmg supporters which are used to hold the stocking in position upon the wearers limb. Where stocking supporters hanging fromthe corsets are attached by metal fasteners to the top of the stockin leg, considerable strains are placed upon t e material of-the stocking during the movements of the wearer.

Andwhere the stocking is of a delicate fabric as silk, lisle thread or open work, it is liable,

in a short time, to be stretched and torn by the strains, and to be cut by the fasteners which are commonly used for securing the supporters to the stocking. We avoid these in uries by the use of our improved stocking cap which reinforces the top of the stocking so, as to prevent its being unduly stretched or distended, and which also interposes between the ;rigid members of the supporter fasteners and the stocking, soas to keep the. fasteners from cutting the stocking.

Furthermore, by forming reinforcin in alternating sections as shown, we retain etween them portions of the lighter and more elastic body material, which'givesa greater degree of elasticity in be secured if the reinforcing was in asingle, continuous band; while, we still retain the advantages of a thickened reinforcing between the fasteners and the stocking.

It will be readily understood that our stocking cap may be modified details-without depart ng from the spirit of our invention.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. Astocking cap consisting of a textile, tubular body, provided with a reinforced portion, and ada ted to be folded upon itself so as to surroun of a stocking'leg.
