IMPRO'VED EDGE-PLANE. w The Schedule' referred 'to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may conce/rn Be it known that I, CHARLES I. Figure 2 is a vertical rawings, is an external side view sectional view of the` same. Figurev 3 is a side View, with plate F removed.
Figure 4 is a plan view.
Figure 5, a detail, showing plate F.
My invention relat use; and
It consists in providing more e'icient means than have heretoforebeen 4devised for paring, or 'trimming the edges of the soles of boots and shoes.
Letter A represents the handle of the edge-plane, se. cured to the body B by means of a shank, D.
-Letter C represents an ear-shaped throat, which throws out the chips of leather on the side opposite to the boot or sho Letter E represents the knife-blade arc of a circle, of uniform thickness, turned up at the sides.
On the side of the knife nex a raised ridge, or lip, upper edge of the sol describing thewith the edges t to the boot or shoe, is a, whose oice is to pare off the e.A In its operation of paring, it g the upperleather by shield b, as shown in iig. 2 of drawings.
es to edge-planes for shoemakers" Letter o is a set-screw, in place.
Letter u. represents an end-plate, of the edge-plane by set-screw al, in
Letter Fis an irregular-shaped plate, secured to the body ofthe edge-plane by set-screw o.
Letter e is an irregularly-shaped sto to fit into a similar-sh edge-plane.
My device is operated as follows:
The operator grasps the han as will present the shield b By pressing the forwa secured to the body manner as set forth.
aped cavity, h, in the body of the next to the upper leather. rd end of the blade upon the edge of the sole, and pushing forward, the edge ofthe sole ,is pared, and the chips escape through the earshaped throat, thus preventing the clogging of the knife.
AAt'the same time, the lip a cuts a groove on the upper edge of the sole, without'any danger of c'u'ttiug the upper leather, being protected by shield b.'
When the knife needs sharpening, it is easily removed by means of set-screw o, and when worn out, lcan be replaced by another.-
What I claim as m byv Letters Patent, is Y An edge-plane for shoemakers with lip a, body B, ear-shaped th plate F, with shoulder c, combined, arran ating, substantially as herein described.
