Letters Patent No. 88,242, dated Mil 70h 23, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN AXLE-BOX.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and. making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS \VAKnF1nLD,-of Minnea-polis, in the county of Hennepin, and in the State of .my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I
will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, and which representa 10ngitudinal section of my invention.
A represents the axle-box, upon one end of which is cast a solidbevelled flange, B, and the opposite end is cutwith a screw-thread, which receives the bevelled nut-flange D.
As the wood will not shrink endwise, the nut D will secure the box in the hub with perfect tightuess,wlthout any wedging or other appliances which cause deviations from the exact centre. And should, by any means, the box become loose, it will only be necessary to tighten the nut- D by screwing it further in.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I' claim as new, aud desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The axle-box A, provided at one end with a solid bevelled flange B, and at the other with screw-threads, which receive the bevelled nut-flange D, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
