Be it known that l, ALBERT W. Ovnnmenu, a citizen oithe United States, residing in the township of Casco, county of Allegan, State of Michigan, have invented cer- 'tain new and useful Improvements in Screen provide an improved straining or screening device for use on spray pumps and the like by which the clogging of the suction pipe of the nu ip is prevented, and also a screening device which is automatically cleaned or freed from sediment by the operation of the pump.

Referring to thedrewing? 3. represents a pump, the same being shown in conventional form. This pump is of the type having a suction pipe as 2 and a return pipe as 3, the return pipe being designed to deliver into the tank containing the sprsyingsolution, there by keeping the solution properly agitated.
My improved screening or spraying device preferably consists of a block 4 having pipe openings 5 and 6 tberetbrough adapted to receive the ends of the suction and return pipes respectively. The block 4 is supported on suitable legs as 7, these legs being preferably formed of Wire bentinto loop form, as illustrated in Fig. 3, theendsof the Wire being inserted into the blocks for securing the legs thereto. See Fig. 5. On the under side of the block I secure a screen 8 forming a screening or straining chamber. This screen is preferably formed of a iece of Wire net or screen folded to form a c amber, the block a forming the top thereof. The screen is secured to the block preferably byrneans of a band 9 Wrapped about the same and secured to the block by means of nails'or brads 10. This construction, is a very economical. one and at the same time is found to be entirely satisfactory in practice. The pipe 0 enings 5 and 6 are preferably arranged tl irough the block so that the return pipe 3 delivers at an angle across the mouth of the suction pipe and also at an angle across the bottom of the screening chamber. This prevents the collection of sediment at the mouth of the suction pipe, as at each stroke of the pump a portion of the charge is delivered baok'into the pump and also by deliv ring at an angle to the bottom of the screen chamber frees the same from obstructions. This arrangementalso insures the proper agitation of the spraying solution at the mouth of the suction tube.
It will be obvious that my improved screening or straining device, is very simple in construction and at the same tinie it is highly effective for the purpose for which it is designed.
l have illustrated and. described the same in detail in the form preferred by me on account of its structural simplicity. I am, however, aware that it is capable of very great variation in structural details Without departing from rnviuvention, and I desire to be understood as claiming the same broadly as Well as specifically, as illustrated.
