Description

GEORGE W. DOVER, OF ORANSTON, RHODE ISLAND.
CUFF-BUTTON.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1908.
Application filed February 9. 1907. Serial No. 356.523.
T 0 all whom 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. DOVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cranston, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Buttons7 Of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in buttons, more particularly to cuff-buttons. The `greatest strain in such buttons is upon the bean and the purpose of this invention is to so thoroughly unite the bean and post as to overcome this recognized fault.
To this end essentially my invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cuiibutton embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3, side and end views respectively of the bean. Fig. 4, a side elevation of the upper portion of post, and Fig. 5, vertical central section of the bean and upper end of the post after the swaging operation.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
My button is formed by boring a hole, 1, in the bottom of the bean, 2. The button head,
of the knurls not only prevent transverse rotation of the bean, but also prevents longitudinal slipping.
Having described my invention what I claim is,
1. In a button the combination with a solid bean, Of a bar whose end is within the solid bean, and inclined rows of knurls upon the portion of the bar within the bean.
2. In a button the combination with a solid bean, of a bar whose end is within the solid bean, and intersecting inclined rows of lgnurls upon the portion Of the bar within the ean.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. DOVER.
Witnesses:
