Be it known that I, HARRY HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kiowa, in the county of Barber and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trace-Carriers, of which the 'following is a specification.

My invention relates to trace carriers, and its primary object is to provide a novel and highly useful device of this character which is adapted to permit a trace to be supported from a hip strap, and which is adapted to retain the trace in relative position with the hip strap.

A further object of my invention is to provide adevice of the character stated which possesses superior advantages in point of simplicity, inexpensivencss and general elliciency, and one which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction,

combination and arrangement of parts hereinaf ter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a trace carrier constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section thereof.

Referring to the drawings by reference numerals, 2 designates a clamp, which is designed to be secured to a trace 3 in a manner to prevent it from having any movement thereon. The clamp comprises two members 4, which when in assembled position provide a casing-like structure for the rece tion of the trace, The lower ends of the c amps 4 are formed to provide hinge knuckles 5, through which passes a pintle 6 to hingedly unite the members. As the members of the clam are thus hingedly connected together, the c amp may be opened to permit it to be readily and quickly applied to and removed from the trace. The upper ends of the members 4 are formed to provide hinge knuckles 7, through Which passes a pin 8, the said pin retaining the members in closed position. A yoke 9 has its horizontal portion provided with an opening 10 to permit a strap loo 11, which carries a buckle 12, to be secured t ereto, said buckle being adapted to have secured thereto the lower end of a hi strap 13. The vertical members of the yo ie 9 have their lowei ends provided with openings 14', through which passes the pin S, whereby to connect the clamp to the yoke and permit it to be supported from the hip strap 13. One end of the pin S is provided with a socket 15 into which fits the free end of a latch inember 1G, which is pivotally mounted upon one of the vertical members of the yoke 9, and which prevents the accidental displacement of the pin 8.

The manner in which my improved trace carrier may be used may be stated to be as follows: The yoke 9 is first applied to the hip strap 13 and the clamp 2 a plied to the trace, after which the pin S is app ied to connect the clamp to the yoke, whereby the trace is supported from the hip strap. The members of the clamp are adapted to firmly engage the trace to prevent it from having any movement thereon, and to thereby securely retain the trace in relative position with relation to the hip strap. As before stated, the clamp is adapted to firmly engage the trace, and in order to permit it to be used upon one which is not large enough to permit the clamp to thus firmly engage it, the members 4 thereof are provided with depressions 17 adapted for the reception of packing strips 1S.

In view of the fact that the pin S secures the members 4 of the clamp in closed position and securesl the clamp to the yoke 9, the clamp may be disconnected from the yoke and the members thereof freed to be opened simultaneously, thereby permitting a trace to be readily and quickly detached from a hip strap and the clamp from the trace.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and mode of operation of the invention should be understood without a further extended description. Changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be made within the sco e of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
