Be it known that I, WALTER A. CoMPToN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and that leaking around the joints from the con- 1 traction of the tubes will be revented.
A further object is to provic e a boiler tube having, means whereby the contraction and expansion of the tube will bev prevented from breaking or in'jurin the same or any of the parts connected t erewith.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanyin drawings :Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a portion of the boiler tube sheets and a boiler tube constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a rear side view of the back tube sheet and the outer end orhead of the boiler tube bushing; Fig. 3 is a detail side view of the boiler tube bushing; and Fig. 4 is a perspective 'view of the cop er gasket or sleeve on the front end of the tu e.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the front tube sheet, and 2 denotes the rear 'tube sheet of a fire tube boiler.v
3 denotes one. of the boiler tubes, which is arranged in the front tube sheet in the usual manner and is provided with an annular flange orbead 4, which is adapted to engage the outer side of the front tube. sheet, as shown. The rear end of the tube 3 is threaded interiorly for a, suitable distance, as at' 5, and into said threaded end is ada ted to be screwed a bushin 6 which is a so screwed through a thr'ea ed alined aperture 7 in the reartube sheet 2. The bushing 6 is provided on its outer end with an annular radially-projecting flange or head 8 which the tube l which isadapted to enga e the outer side of the rear tube sheet, ass own. The bushing 6 is rovided with an inwardly-tapered bore in t e outer end of which is arran ed inwardly-projecting lugs or ribs 9. he lugs or ribs 9 facilitate the engagement of a socket wrench with said bushing, whereby the latter is screwed through the tube sheet and into the end of the boiler tube, aswill be understood.
Arran ed on the bushing 6 between the inner side of the rear tube sheet 2 and the adjacent end of the boiler tube is a copper washer 10, which when the bushin is tightly screwed into the tube is jamme between the end of the latter and the tube bushing and forming a steam and water tight joint for the same. Arranged on the forward end of the boiler tube and in the hole or aperture of the tube sheet through asses is a co per sleeve or gasket 12, the o ject of whic is -to ermit thetube 3 to expand and contract, t ereby removing the strain from the bushing, thus preventing the breaking of the threads or the flange on said bushing or the flan e on the opposite end of the tube. Said seeve or gasket also prevents any leaking at the front end of the tube due to the contraction of the same.
By providing a bushing for the end of the boiler tube and arranging the same as herein shown and described the end of the boiler tube will be entirely within the boiler and protected-from contact with the cold air when the fire'box'door is opened, thus reventing sudden cooling andcontracting ot the boiler tubes.

From the oregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring amore extended ex lanation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and-desire to secure by Letfilers-Patent, is 2- outer side of said tube sheet, a be low exteriorly threaded bushing ada ted, to be screwed through the passage in -t e rear tube sheet and into the threaded rear end of said tube, an annular flange or bead formedon' the outer end of said bushing to engage the outer sides of said rear tube sheet, a sleeve orv gasket arranged on the forward end of said tube and passing through the. aperture in the front tube sheet, and around the flange on said forward end of the tube, and a washer arranged between the rear end of the' tube and the adjacent side of the'rear tube sheet, substantially as described.
2. The combination with the front and rear tube sheets; of a boiler having therein alined boiler tube passages, of a boiier tube adapted to be inserted through the passage erases in said front tube sheet, an annular flange on the forward end of said tube to engage the outer side of said tube sheet, a hollow, exteriorly threaded bushing ada ted to be screwed through the passage in t e rear tube sheet and into the threaded rear end of said tube, an annular flange'or bead formed on the outer end of said bushing to engage the outer sides of said rear tube sheet, lugs or ribs formed on the inner wall of said hollow bushing to facilitate the. engagement of a wrench therewith a sleeve or gasket -ar-' ranged on the forward end of said tube and passing through the aperture in the front tube sheet, and around the flange on said forward end of the tube and a washer arranged between the rearend of the tube and the adjacent side of the rear tube sheet, substantially as described.
