The. rincipal ob'ect is to provide a lireproof e ement whicli can be used either as a door, shutter, blind, curtain or partition.
A special object is to provide a rolling element available as aiorestated, which shall be simple in construction and operation, comparatively inexpensive, and which may be easily erected.
There are furtherobjects, whereof someA are obvious and whereof others will be referred to. with more particularity in .the detailed description.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention -will be more clearly un erstood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1, is a'sectionalview of a roller blind or shutter embodying features of my`invention; and Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the shutter.
Referring to the drawings, a and la are metal sheets, and for the purposes ol this description they represent, respectively, the ex osed inside and outside walls of a roller bhnd or shutter.
cv is an interposed sheet of asbestos or equivalent fire-resistant, material.
d is a guide frame to accommodate the shutter, and e is a suitable spindle on which the shutter is rolled.
The inside sheet a is fiat when unrolled while theoutside sheet b and interposed element c are corrugated. The )urpose of this is two-fold, namely, to providle air chambers or pockets, whereby there is insured a free circulation of air so that buckling and distortion of the shutter, when exposed to the heat, is obviated; and to impart increased strength and rigidity to the structur with a minimum amount of metal so that the shut' tei is comparatively light. This arrange# ment is further advantageous in that it inlsures a lcompact rolling oi the curtain or shutter Jfor when the shutter is polled the sheet b beeomes uncorrugated and thethiekness of the' shutter rplled is the,combined/ thickness of the three comple'mental sheets,v
(see Fig. 1). This is accomplished by the Specification of Letters Patent. iplicatieu filed March 30.1907. Serial No. 365.477.
Patented F6114, 190s. i
peculiar way ol binding the sheets and by making the sheet elements of varying lengths the outer sheet b having the greater distance to travel being the longest, the intermediate sheet a triile shorter, and the sheet a having' the lesser distance to travel, `is the shortest. rl`hc corrugating is ellected by securing the complemental sheets at spaced intervals by means of rivets f and it will be understood that after a course of rivets is laid, the asbestos sheet c and outside sheet b are bumped or raised, while the inside sheet a is kept flat the sheets being secured in this relation by further courses of rivets'f.
It is desirable to provide a shield or some protecting means to revent the wearing of the outer sheet b w ile traveling up and down in the guide frame d', and for the sake of illustration 'I have shown rivets or projections g, disposed on the raised or corrugated parts of said sheet, which hold the sheet awa from the guide-frame.
i aving described the nature and objects of the invention, what I'claim as new and desire ,to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A fire-proof roller blind, shutter or like construction comprising a plurality of ilexible sheets of varying lengths, proportionately divided and riveted together at spaced intervals, the arrangement being such that when the curtain is unrolled there are air chambers or pockets and when rolled one sheet is in continuous contact witlrthe next adjacent sheet, substantially as specified.
2. A fire-proof roller blind, shutter or like construction comprising a flat sheet, a corrugated sheet and an inter osed sheet of fireresistant material, said s icets being formed of flexible material and being of varying length and jbeing proportionately divided, the corrugating being effected by raising the sheet atspacedlintervals and securing the sheets together vby rivets whereby when rolled one sheet isA in continuous contact with the next adjacent sheet, substantially as -specied f 3. A' fire-proof rollerblind, shutter or like construction comprising continuous iiexible metal sheets and an interposed sheet of fireresistant material, said sheets varying in length and being proportionately divided' and being secured at spaced intervals whereby other sheet and being corru ated when un... rolled and uncorrugated W en rolled saidv sheets being ,proportionately dividedfsubstantially as specified.: I
5. A iireproof roller blind, shutter or like construction comprising iiexible metal sheets and an intermediate'lasbestos sheet, the latter and one of the metal Sheets being corrugated when unrolled and uncorrugated Whenrolled which is effected \by making them longer 4than the other sheetand securing them at intervals by rivets said sheets being proportionately divided, substantially as speciie' 6. n combination With a guideframe, a
'l fire-proof rpller blind, shutter or like construction cpmprising flexible metal sheetsl of varyin VVlengthisecured together at spaced' interva s whereby one is corrugated, and an 255 intermediate fire-proof sheet,` said corrugated sheet having a shield near its outer ed for the'purposerof preventingrwear the s eets@ being proportionately"divided, substantially asspecied.`
construction comprising Aagplul'ality fof:l ilgXi-g` ble elements Yof varyin,`g ';V length securedtegl gether at spaced intervals soa's tosoperateras l a'un'it, one of said elements being corrugated"5 when unrolled to provide strength and air paces and uncorrugat'ed when rolled` said stantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I' have hereunto 4d signed my name to this`sp`eciiioation 1n presence of two witnesses.
