BRIDGING NAVIGABLE STREAMS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 8,781, dated March 2, 1852.
To @7l whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. LEE, oi the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved mode o accommodating the passage of vessels up and down rivers at the same moment that the rivers are crossed by railroad-cars or ordinary vehicles on bridges for the passage of rail or common roads, and thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specication.
The nature of my invention consists in a new combination of bridge, canal, tunnel and road by means of which neither the passage of carriages or cars across rivers nor the passage of vessels up and down them is impeded for an instant, draw. bridges by this invention being rendered unnecessary.
In the accompanying drawing A is the canal B the tunnel C C C C roads to shorten routes from places between canal and river to those beyond canal, D, D,AD, D, D, D
common roads.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination of canal A tunnel B bridge and road constructed and arranged substantially as above described.
