Description

PATENTED JAN. 28, 1908.
P. RICHARDSON.
DEVICE FORSUPPORTING PAINT PAILS.
APPLICATION IILED DEO.17. 190s.
gvnmu toz rare.
PAUL RICHARDSbN, OF BRYAN, OHIO.
DEVICE FOR SUPPOLRCING PAINT'PAXIAE- To all whom. it 172 my concern:
Be it known that I, PAUi: RICHARDSON, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Bryan, in the county of Williams, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Supporting Paint-Pails; and I do hereby declare the fol-. lowing to be a full, clear, and exact descri "tion. of. the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to contrivances for supporting tin aint-pails from the rounds of a ladder while t 1e painter is at work upon the ladder and using paint from the pail support ed as stated.
It is the purpose of the invention to provide an exceedingly simple and effic ent means for supporting a paint pail,-and toso construct it at the same time that the supporting means with the )ail can be taken from the round of the ladder and transferred to another or carried away by the employment oi one hand. i
The nature of the invention may be ascertained from the device portrayed in the an neXed drawing, forming a part of this speeiiication, in view of which the said invention will first be described with res wet to its construction and mode of use. amithen be pointed out in the subjoined claims.
Of the said drawings:l igurc l is a front View of the invention applied to a ladder. Fig. 2 is a section on line '22 of Fig. 1 with the ladder omitted.
Similar numerals of reference designate similar parts or features, as the case may be wherever they occur.
in the drawings 10 designates a hook formed from the central portion of a length of wire doubled upon itself, and bent backward at its base, as at 11, forming a'shank 12 adapted to rest upon the round 13 of a ladder H over which the hook may be placed.
15 designates a handle in the form of a ring which is made by turning up the portions of Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 17. 1906. Serial No. 348.2i5.
Patented'J'an. 28, 1 908.
the wire adjacent to the shank 12 into rin form and then makin one or more turns 0 the wire around the siiank, as at 16, so that the ring or other form giv e'n to the handle 15 may remain permanent and not spread at its bottom;
The end mation of t downward constituting a bail 17; turning the extremities of the bail, into the form of hooks 18 to engage 0r hook into the sides or ears of a paintpail, and support it in upright position while the painter is engaged in Working therefrom.
In case it is desired to transfer the aint pail and its support from one round 9 the plortions of the wire afterthe for-' e handle are bent outward and adder to another, or to carry the gin awn i the user may merely take; hold of e hand e 1-5, by one hand, and lift the hook, supporting bail and paintot attached to the latter from the round of tie ladder and carry it as .he would if the handle hook were'a part of a bail in tact ot the paint-pot.
The efficiency and simplicity of the device render it an article of manufacture of importance and highmerit.
What is claimed is As an article of manufacture a paint-pail support composed of a length of wire bent upon itself at its center to form a hook, a portion of which is bent laterally to constitute a shank to the book, a handle formed from the portions of the wire immediately above the 100k, a portion of the wire next to the handle being bent around the shank of the hook, and a bail formed from the end portions of the wire, theterminals of which are bent into the form of hooks to engage thesides of a paintpail.
In testimony whereof, I atfix my signature,
in presence of two witnesses.
PAUL RICHARDSON.
