Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 196-8.
Application na September 22. 1906. seen No. 335.305.
To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Bonner B. EMERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Deodorizer-R'eceptacles, of which the following is a specification. r
This invention relates to receptacles, and more particularly to those employed for holding deodorizers and the like, its ob1ect to provide a device of this character adapted for use in bath rooms, closets, sickrooms, stables, and otherplaces requiring such devices, and the device may a-lsobe employed in receptacles for garbage and the likewhere it is desired to neutralize oiiensive odors and to disinfect the atmosphere.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device which may be attached to a permanent support, such as the wall or fioor of a room, or within a receptacle for garbage and the like, or in other localities, and which may be readily disconnected for the renewal of the disinfecting material without detaching the device from its support. I
Another object of the invention is to provide a sim ly constructed device of this character w 'ch may be readily increased or decreased in size to adapt it to the quantity or disinfecting material.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction hereafter described and specifically pointed out in the claims and illustrated in-the accompanying drawings, and in the drawings thus employed is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention. i
in the drawings :F*igure 1 is a plan view of the improved invention. Fig. 2 'is a vertical sectional view of the same. Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are sectional detail views illustrating modifications in the construction of the improved device.
The improved device comprises a base sec tion or shell having a threaded upperpor "tion 1 and a flaring lower portion 2, the flaring portion having spaced apertures 3 to receive the holdin devices, such as screws, tacks, orthe likefioy which it may be secured toapermanent support, such as the wall or 13001 of the room, or within a receptacle of and has for' 1 any desired character, such as a garbage can or the like. An upper shell 4 is also provided, -open at the lower end and witlrthe upper portion perforated, the lower 'open portion eing externally and internally threaded, the'external threads adapted to engage a threaded portion of the base shell, as shown. By this simple means the upper shell may be readily detached from the lower stationary shell without disturbing the latter. Fitting with theinternally threaded portion of the upper shell is a disk 6, the disk engaging the internal threads and supported in position thereby.
The absorbent material, which serves as a vehicle for the deodorizing compound, is indicated at 5, and may be oi any suitable material usually employed for this purpose,
= and is supported in place within the shell 4 by the dis 6. be obvious that the absorbent material. may be compressed within the shell 4 by rotating the dis r 6 and causing it to move upon the internally threaded portion of the u per shell, and to facilitate this movement 0 the disk, the latter is provided with a thumb piece 7, as shown.
In Fig. 3, a perforated disk, indicated at 6, is shown fitted directly upon the upper annular edge'of the threaded upper portion or neck of the base shell, indicated at 1.
In the modified construction shown in Fig. 4, the threaded portion of the base section is indicated at 1 and the flaring flange ortion at 2 and is formed with an annular s oulder 7 upon which the perforated disk, indicated at 6 rests, and is clamped thereupon by the threaded portion of the upper section, indicated at 4. In the modified structure shown in Fig. 5, a erforated disk, indicated at 6*,
is clamped etween an annular shoulder 7 a formed upon the u 4 and the threade neck portion of the base shell, indicated at 1*;
From the foregoing, it will be obvious that a ver simply constructed device is produced,
whic may ereadily attached by its base portion to any. stationary structure, and the upper portion carrying the' deodorizing material attached to or detached from the base portion for the purpose of renewing the deodorizing material, and without disturbing the base portion. It will be also obvious that the absorbent material may be comper section indicated at By this arrangement it will i is claimed as new is t eacls of the upper shell.
Having thus described the invention, what -1. In' a device of the class described, a base shell having a flaring lower portion and a threaded upper portion, the flaring portion adapted to be attached 'to a permanent support, an upper shell having a perforated upper portlon and an internally and ex-- ternall threaded lower portion and ada ted to be etachably engaged by the base shell, and a erforated disk disposed at the junc: ture' of the two shells, and means whereby said disk is adapted to support the material within the upper shell and to compress the -material therein.
2. A device of the class described comprising a base shell having a flaring lower portion and adapted to. be secured to a permanent support and witlithe. u per portion threaded, an upper perforate s ell with, an
olppn lower end externally and internally t 25 eaded and detachably en agingsaid base shell by its externally threade portion, and
la perforated disk adjustably'.engaging-the inner threaded portion of said o'uter shell. I
In testimony whereof '1 have signed my name to this specification in the presence 30 of two subscribing witnesses.' I ROBERT B. EMERSON. Witnesses:
JAMES M. ADAMs, EDWARD A. WERNER.
