MARION MONROE SWANSON, OF ALBIA, IOWA.
WIRE-FENCE-LAYING MACHINE.-
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1908.
Application filed October 25- 1906. Serial No. 34:0.81.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARION MONROE SwANsoN, a citizen of the United States,-residing at Albia, in the county of Monroe and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful \Vire-Fence-Laying Machine; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
The invention relates to wire laying machines, and has for its object to provide a simple inexpensive and durable device of this character, adapted to be drawn by a man over the field where the wire fence is being constructed. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the reel and frame constructed in accordance with this invention. Fi 2 is a plan view of the inner face of one of t e sides, the washer 5 being shown thrown back in dotted lines.
Referring to the drawings, ldesignates a frame of my invention, which is provided with the usual braces as shown. One end of this frame is adapted to receive a reel 2,
which is pivotally mounted on an axle 3. The axle 3 is mounted in suitable apertures in the ends of the frame. On one side of the frame is provided a staple 4, in which is inserted a pin 4 by which the aXle is held in place. On each side of the inner end of the frame, is mounted a suitable Washer 5 which is pivoted through its flange 7 as at 8. WVhen it is desired to use a reel of extra length, the washer 5 can be turned inwardly as shown in Fig. 2 in dotted lines. This will provide greater space between the ends for mounting the reel. The flange 7 is provided with a lug 9 which engages a suitable aperture on either side of the pivot.
What is claimed is:
A device of the class described, comprising a frame, an aXle, a reel mounted on said aXle, washers engaging'each end of said reel, said washers being pivotally mounted, and having lu s for holding them out of engagement with t e reel, when desired.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MARION MONROE SWANSON.
Witnesses.
