Application filed August 6v 15505. Serial No. 329316.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN T. H. PAUL, a citizen of she United States, residing; at Chicago, in the county or Cook and State of lllinois, have invented s. new and useful Impro'vem'en; in vl oshi gmiochines of which the following is o specification.
My invention relates particularly to 1113i chines for use in cleansing filtering-material,
19 such as is commonly used in iii gors For filter-- ir'ig liquors.
My primary object is to provide :2 machine her ing improved means for circuleting the cleansing-fluid and the filtemnsss, theroh insuring more complete cleansing of the fi her-mess and increasing the capacity of the. ins-chine.
The invention is illustrated in'its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drswings,
2c in Which- Figure 1 represents an end elevetionol View of my improved weshingmischine Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal sectional View of the some; Fig. 3, broken plan View of the machine; Fig. 4-, an enlarged broken, sectionel View of the injector employed; and
i Fig. 5, a broken detail sectional View show ing the manner in which on sir-pipe employedenters the casing through t hcsnme connection as does the injector-pipe ernployed.
v in the construction shown, A represents a casing snpoortcd on A and e .p 'ied with a lid I througl'i which the charge of iil wring-material may be thrown into the easing;.B, an injector boring s iipe 13 joined by a connection 3' to one end of the casing st or nenr the oostom of the casing; 53 an sir-pipe which enters tic casing through. the
.0 connectionl5 and extends across hot-- torn of the casing; G, rotary cylindrical scrce nhering tubular trunnions C C journeled in the ends of the casing nesr the hop of -the casing; 0 ,1. sprocket'whccl secured on the trunnion through the medium of -wh ich the screen o is rotated; C", U, over fidw-pipes with which the tubular trumiions communicate; D, 2. fan, or propeller, having a shaft D journa-led in a bearing D" in one of the casing-ends, near the bottom of the cus ing; D a tubular housing, for the {on supor'ted on bracket-arms D projecting inwardly from the end of the casing; D, s. con
icol deflector secured st the opposite end of the casing and having its point projecting toward the fan end in axial slinement therewith; D, a bracket having o hearing for the shaft D; D a. pulley through the medium of which the shaft D is rotated; D, a. sprocket-Wheel secured. on the shaft D end joined by a. sprocket-chain I) to s sprocket wlicel D? journsled on a stud D projecting from the casing-end somewhalt above and at one side of the shaft D; D", o sprocketwheel formed integrally with the s r0cketwheel D and connected by a chain with the sprocket-wheelC and-E a lug in the bottom of the casing controlled. :1 rockshaft E and a lever E in e we known manner.
The cosing,'or receptacle, A may be of any suitable form. Preferably it has n hsl'f-cy indrical bottom a, plane sides a and a rectsngular to 41 of which the lid A forms a part. The id A is joined by hinges a to the ststionar' section of the to and has its free lateral or go secured by loo 'ing means a of well known construction.
The injector 13 comprises an inner nozzle 6; an outer nozzle 1), whose. outer ond'hes screw connection with the base portion of the nozzle 1); a. casing 5 into one end of which .the nozzle bl is screwed; a funnel lfihsvingscrew connection with an intermediate portion of the nozzle '6 and having openings 5 through which the induced fiow of water may pass; and a water pipe b having connection with the casing b" through one side thereof. The pipe B has screw connection with the end of the casing 11 which is on; posits the nozzle.
so The lower .end' of rho.
pipe 13 is joined by s l shnped unionlfi s Y a. p1pe-seot1on I) which hos screw oonneclzion witha collar 5 secured to the cesing end The pipe B has screw connection with the outer end of-the member I)", and comprises sections l)", the-latter of which extends through the tubular member 5 and into the casing, where it is provided on its lower side with outlets l) through which the air may escape into the water and "she filter-mass therein. It will be understood that the wsier and the steam condensed therein enter the casing through the annular space b" between the pipe-secsion b and the pipesection if, as clearly appears from Fig. 5.
Th deceils of construction of the rotary. screen f], Whi... serves as on eduction conduit through which the overflow may pass to the pipes C (i may he of any suitable construction. The trunnion is contained in a hearing 1:, which conslitutcs also a hushing; and the pipe has connection with the bearing a. v
a. bearing c ei' uipped with a psciring-ring c. The pipe is supported by a bracket 6 and is equipped at its upper end with on. inturned elbow c into which the trunnion C extends loosely.
The propeller D may he of any suitehle construction. The hearing constitutes also it smiling-box, being equipped with t pecking-ring i1. is stated, the axis of the propelleris in olincment with the conical deflector, or spreader, I); and the axis of the tubular housing, D is likewise in elinementwith the axis of thememher l).
The detaiis of construction of the plug E,
which maybe opened to permit the filtermass to be discharged from the roccptocle, are of common construction and need not he described.
In operation, steam enters through the nozzle. l) and. induces uv flow of Water through the pipe b the mingled streams entering the casing of the nuichine through the annular passage 0 Power is imparted to the propeller I), through the medium of the pullcy D and is .connmlnicated from lhe propeller-shaft to the screen 0 through the inediunuof the SPIOOlCOt-Wl]eClS and chains. The propeller operates to force the water and filter-mass through the tubular lu'msinp; l)" and against the conicalspreader D", which divides the current,' causing it to circulate hack in all directions to the rcor of the (camel D. The mass is kept open and nuttting prevented by air'currcnts injected through the openings b of the section 1A of the pipe B The machine described of simple construction, is easily operated and admirably adapted to. its purpose. Experience has demonstrated that it Will o erate to more effectually cleanse filterrng nuttornrl then the Tl'ietrunnion C extends through i l I l i l l i l l l l i l l known nntchines, and that it possesses in-- creased capacity.
What I regard. as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. in a machine of the character set forth, thecombination of a casing, 21 spreader supported in the casing, and a propeller operating to propel the filter-mass and Washing fluid toward said spreader.
2. in a muchinc of the character set forth, the combination of a casing, a Water supplypipc connnunicsting with the casing at one end. thereof near the bottom of the casing, 21 spreader connected with the same end of the casing at it higher point, a propellerorrangcd opposite said spreader, and an induction port communicating with the interior of theorising near the upper portion. thereof.
In a machine of the character set forth,
the combination of a casing, a watensupply Y pipe connected therewith, a. spreader supported at one. endof the casing, a tubular housing open fit both ends supported at the other end of the casing in axial alinement .with said spreader, and {L rotary propeller in said housing, for the purpose set forth.
1. In a machine of the character set forth, the combination of at casing, an injector-pipe equipped with on injector, a union connecting said pipe with the lower portion of the casing, an air-pipe extending through said union and into the casing and provided with in the casing with perforations, end an cductiou port connected with the upper portion of the casing.
ilfii. machine of the character set forth,
the combination of :1V casing, a conical sprcz'nlcr in said casing and supported on one end thereof, a tubular housing supported on the other end of said casing, and a propeller in said tubular housing.
