COMBINED FOLDING TABLE AND REGBPTAGLB. APPLIOATIOH FILED m. 4, 1906.
Unrrn s'rarns t me orrrcn JOHN E. LOFTIN, OF ROCKFORD, WASHINGTON.
COMINED- FOLDING AND RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31,1907.
Application filed December 4:. 1906; Serial No. 346.286.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, J OHN E. Lor'rIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented a' new and useful Combined'Folding Table and Receptacle, of
' which the following is a specification.
7 which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which corresponding parts are denoted b like designating characters, is illustrate the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its a vantages, and the right is therefore reserved of making all the changes and modifications which fairlv fall within the scope of the invention and the claims made therefor.
In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a pers ective view of the device arranged as a tab c. Fig. 2 is a ers ective view of the device partially folded Fig. 3 is a trans verse section, enlarged, of the device fully folded. Fig. 4 is a sectional detail illustrating the construction and operation of the foldable legs.
In the improved device is comprised a top member divided into two sections. 1011, preferably longitudinally thereof Connected to the top section 10 by hinges 12, is a receptacle 14 having a closed bottom 15, and rigidly connected to the top section 11 is areceptacle 16 having the side opposite its top sectiono en.
The rece tac e 16 is united by hinges 17 and 18 to t e receptacle 14 on the same side of the latter receptacle as is the top section 10, this section however being hinged at the top of the receptacle while the top of the receptacle 16 is hinged to its bottom. By this arrangement, when the table is set up or folded, the receptacle 14 is readily accessible by raising the top section 10.
From the above it will be readily understood that, whether setup or closed, the top section .10 can be raised to open the section 14. Hooks 1.9 and staples 20 aremoun'ted on opposite receptacles to firmly but detachably oin them when set up. A hook 21 on the receptacle 14 engages a staple 22 on the hinged top section to hold it closed, a similar hook and staple 2324 hold the two receptacles in closed osition. 1
Longitudinal y disposed within the receptable 14 and spaced from its outer wall is a partition 25, and similarly disposed in the receptahle 16 is a partition 26. Extending transversely through the outer wallspf the receptacles and likewise through the part1- tions-25-26 near their ends, are studs-27* 28-29 and 30, and vpivotally engaging these studs are supportingilegs 31-3233-34, foldable into the compartments formed by the partitions 25-26, when not in use, and extensible to support the table, as shown in Fig. 1. The pivot apertures in the supportmg legs, will be elongated, as shown at 35 in Fig. 4, 'and each formed with lateral .terminals, as at 36. Stop chocks' 37-38 Wlll be positioned in the compartments formed by the partitions 2526 to form sockets into which the inner ends of the legs will fit when extended, as shown in Fig. 4:.
By this simple arrangement, it will be obvious that the legs may be tilted upon their pivots and either folded into the compartments, or withdrawn and supported by he chock stops in position to support the device as a table, and as shown in Fig. 1.
It will thus be obvious also that a very compact and convenient device is simple,
'produced, in which various articles maybe stored for transportation and which may be quickly transformed into a table or stand. It will also be noted that the receptacle 16 is closed by folding the receptacle 14 upon its open side, while the receptacle 14 is closed by the bin ed top section 10. Each. rece tacle there ore is independently accessib e, and the receptacle-14 remains as a receptacle easily accessible by elevating thetop secifl'when extended intc emen, as
illustrated in Fig. 4'.
' The device mebe of eny 'suiteble size and. can be menu ectureol in various sizes, i
required, and will be femnd very cenvenient and useful for the put oses described.
thus describe whet is ceimed, is l 1. A foldeble table comprising two boxlikereceptscles of similar shape, one recepthe invention,
tee/1e herring a top section hi thereto eieng ene side and a closed bottom, the
cther .receptecie having. a top section fixed fiierete amt an open bottom; the hettom edge'of' seidfirst receptacle on the same side es thet te r m the seidl tep section ishinged being hinged to the cones ending hettem edge ef seicl second receptec e, whereby both receptscies ere readily accessible when the table is folded, and slipporting legspivoted to the sections.
2. Afoldeble table comprising two box-like receptacles, one receptacle having a top sec-v time hinged thereto and a closed bottom, 1
and the other receptacle having a, top section attached thereto, seidreceptacles being 'hinged together along a corresponding botes my own, I eve hereto sffixed my signa ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
