APPARATUS FOR APPLXUATION VMM* i ALBERT GEORGE PIRKIS, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
APPARATUS FOR STENCILING DESIGNS ON POST-CARDS, &c.
n. erano.
To alt' 'wilma 'it may concern:
Be it known that l, ALBERT Gnoncn Plains, a subject et' the King of Great Britain, residing at London, in the county of London, England, have invented certain new and lm roved Apparatus for Stenciling Designs on ost-Cards and the Like, in one or more colors, applicable also for the decoration of other suitable articles, of which the :tollowing is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
rlhe object of this invention is to provide a simple and cheap stenciling ap )aratus with which post cards, and other h 'e cards and'.
papers can be decorated with designs in several colors, and which will form a fascinating toy for children, and an advertising deilice, Whilebeing also' capabli if application to decorative purposes generally.
n .ln order that theinvention be clearly understood, I append a full description, and a sheet of drawings in which Figure i.. is plan of the apparatus. Fig. 2. is an end view of saine when-folded. Fig.
3. is a pian showing a design completed. l
A. is a sheet of paper, cardboard, metal, or
` any other suitable material shaped as shown .in drawing, the center base B being of any required size, and the flaps C. D. Ef F. of a size to correspond with it, and creased in suoli a manner at a. l). c. d. as to fold over said base, each iiap bein ed singly and flat on the hase, in proper rotation'according tothe color used. v
d when not in ua.
f2. shows a o-ruiipieted design to illus trate t ic process. l
in pon 'flap C is ou t astencil of portion of the design which is shown in Fig. 3. and marked therein by the saine letter, upon l) is out a stencil f upon E a stencil g, and upon F a stencil it, all shown by saine letters upon said figure.
Thefproces is as follows,a card to be operated on is placed on B and fastened thereon by pins or by any other desirable method, flap C is then folded on to it, and a brush or other color conveyor charged with, for eX- ample, yellow, is brushed over the stencil, leaving that portion of the design 'yellow on 'the card, C is then folded back and folded 2. shows the apparatus completely Specication of'ietters Patent.

on to B and blue applied, and then folded back, .E is then folded over and red applied,
and then folded back, and finally F is foldedf over and black applied, the design in four colors is then complctcd, the card thus decorated can then be removed andthe process repeated.
It is obvious that flaps can bc used, and l do not confine myd self to the example shown or to the shape thereof, as an Octagon base with angular iiaps, and other like variations can be usedl withoutdeparting from; the spirit of my invention, I also do not confine myself to the production of designs on paper, card, and
the like, as l can, by my invention, decorate.
boxes', book covers, and other articles suitable for such treatment, bycutting out the centerl portion of the base B,y along the `dotted lines N, leaving aA narrow margin, as shown in drawing, for the purpose ofliolding the folding flaps, and for fastening base B, to, the article to be decorated, the out out portion, it is evident, allows the various ,flaps to be folded over in turn and operated as; before described leaving a completed (lesign on said article.
-Having now described and ascertained the any number of folding' nature of my said invention, and 'in what manner the same is to be performed l declare that what I claim is 1. An apparatus Afor stenciling designs on postcardsand the like, in one or more colors, consistingv of the combination of base B, with 'folding perforated flaps C, D, E, F, constructed and operating as described and illustrated in accompanying drawings.
'2. An apparatus 'for steiiciling in one or more colors, consisting ofthe combination of base B having the central portion, indicated by dotted lines N, adaited to be removed,`
and folding p'erforatef aps C, D, E, F, con. structed and operating as described and illustrated in accompanying drawings.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my invention, I-have signedv my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 2nd day of April 1906.
