CLASP.
` Specification of Letterslatent.
Patented Dec. a4, 1907.
Application-filed Iiily 12. 1907. Serial No. 383,469.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. "BAG- NALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a clasp, and has for its object to provide a device of this-kind enibodying simplicity of construction, and also, one which will securely hold the object to which it is applied.
A further object is to provideia clasp which can be readily ap lied and removed.
In theacconipanying rawing, Figure 1 is a plan view showing the clasp open. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the clasp closed. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view.
The cla'sp comprises two jaw members indicated in the drawings at 5 and 6, respectively. The member 5 has a rearward bend 7 at one end which is perforated to receive a tubular rivet 8 formed integral with the 5 member 6, whereby a pivotal connectionbetween the two jaws members is had. The axis of the pivot is perpendicular to the faces of the jaw members, in order that they may be swung open or separated sidewise as shown in Fig. l.
The member 6 is a disk having on its face a protuberance 9 which is presented toward the member 5, and the latter mei-liber has an openingl() which is directly above the protuberance when the jaws are closed. At the entrance of the jaws, the member 5 has a projecting pin Il', which is presented toward the member 6 slightly below the protuberance 9. 'The pin is 'so located that it ap,
. proaclies close xto'tlie base of the protubermember 5 so that the article to be held'may Yance ,when the jaws are closed.V The bend 7 is space'd from 'the mainr portion of the jaw enter therebetween,
The fabric or object to beheld is inserted between the jaw Inembers iny the following manner: The jaws :are first separated as shown in Fig. 1, and the pin 11 is struck into y the fabric which is indicated by the dotted lines at 12 in-Fig. 3. The jaws are thenelosed so as to bring the protuberance 9 under the opening 10 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 which forces the fabric into said opening, whereby it is securely held on the pin between'the jaws. The pivotal connection works ytight so that the jaws will not open accidentally.
The clasp herein described will securely "hold the object, and it can be readily engaged and disengaged, its construction is simple,
it can be chea ly and easily produced.'
The clasp is especia ly designed for fob chains,
and the jaw member 5 has eyelets 13 forl attaching the clasp. j
4 I claim:
l. A clasp comprising two members, one of which has on its face a protuberance, and the other member carrying a projecting pin having its point adjacent the base of the protuberance when the clasp is closed, and' a,
pivotal connection between said members perpendicular to their faces.
2. A clasp comprising pivotally connected members, one of which has on its face a protuberance, and the otherniember having an opening registering therewith when the clasp is closed, and a pin on the member having-the opening, said pin being presented toward the other member and having its point adjacent the base of the protuberance whenr the clasp is closed.
3. A clas 4comprising two jaw-members, one of whic i has on its /face a protuberance, and the other member having an opening registering therewith when the clasp is closed, av rearward -bend on one of the members, a pivotal connection between saidI bend' and the other member, said pivot beingperpendicular to the faces of the nien i bers, and a pin on the member having the opening/said pin being presented toward the other member, and having its point adjacent the base of the protuberance when the clasp is closed. l
. In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
in presence of two witnesses. Y
