INIPRQVEMENT IN SMOKING-PIPE AI'D CIGAR-HOLDERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pax-t of the same.
To all whom .fit may concem Be it known that I, AUGus'r TAPPE, of Johnstown, in the county of Fulton, and State of New York, havel invented a new and useful Improvement in Smoking- Pipes and Cigar-Holders; and I do hereby declare tliat the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specication, in which the drawing represents a sectional view. of a cigarholder orpipe-steln provided Awith my improved attach-g ment.
The object of this invention is to provlile a nen7 atfrom entering the mouth-piece, and from thereby injuring the health of the smoker. A
The invention consists in the application, within the stern, of a perforated conical tube, sirsgpiom a perforated diaphragm, and of a perf p tube, pr'ojecting upward above said diaphragm, so that by the said tubes the juice will be arrestedfand only smoke allowed to pass' into the mouth-piece,
A, in the drawing, represents the mouth-piece of cigar-holder `or pipe. l
B is the stern of the same.
In the drawing, the. black lines represent a cigarholder, while the red lines show the saine parts applied toapipe. 4' i In the upper part ofthe stem B is arranged a sheetmetal or other diaphragm, a., which may be secured in any suitable manner, it being represented as fastened to a tube, l), that is, by means ot' a flange, c, suspended from .the upper edge of the stem.
The plate a is perfarated in the Acentre, and from its under side is suspended a perforated conical tube, C,
Vof the cone C. The upper end of the tube E- may be enlarged, as'.
as shown, while from its upper face may, if desired,
project upward, a short tube, which is open on top.
To the lower end of the mouth-pieceA is secured a tube, D, `which can be tted into the upper 'part of the stem, or into the tube b, as shown, so that its closed end fits gpon the plate a, as shown.
From the-bottom, e, ofthe tube D, projects upward a tube, E, which is'open at its lower end, and which fits over the tube d, so as to form an upward extension jshown, and is 'perforated` at thejunction ofthe enlarged arid cylindrical portions. .f
The smoke can pass from the lower part ofthe stem, through thecone O and tube E, into thc mouth-piece, while ythe juice cannot pass through the line apertures of. G, and will' therefore remain in the stem. Should, however, some enter the cone O, it will be-arrestediu the tube E.
By having the tube E attached to the month-piece, and the cone C to the stern, as described, the pieces can be readily taken apart for cleanil'lg-purposcs.
Instead of being secured in the stein, the plate a may be arranged in the shank of the bowl, and the tube D, on the stem of a pipe.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The hollow perforated cone G, perforated tube E, and diaphragm a, when arranged within the stem,'or other part of a cigar-holder or smoking-pipe, substantiallyas herein shown and described, for the purpose AUGUST TAPPE.
, specified.
