Description
i tion of the different L'A W-soN G. PEEL, 0E
PRESTON, GEORGIA.
Letters Patent No.v 87,362, dated March 2, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN' PLOW-STOCK A The schedule retenes to in these Letten Patent and making part of the same.
* Q-Obw--g To all whom 'it 'may concern.-
Be it known that I, LAWSON G. PEEL, of Preston, in the county of Webster, and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and do hereby declare, that the'following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construcparts constituting the plow, and in the manner of attaching them together, all of which will be hereinafter more fully sct forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my inventionappertains, to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a @fart of this specification, and in which- Figure l' is a perspective view ofthe plow complete, and
Figure 2, a side view, in section, of the plowshare, showing thcfmode of fastening the same.
A represents the plow-stock, or beam,;at the rear end'of which is placed an upright beam, B, slightly inclined.
Atthe upper end.of the beam B isa cross-bar, C, to which the handles DJ) are secured, the said handles being also secured to the plow-beam A, at any suitable point. A
At the rear end of the plow-beam A, is attached a forked foot, or standard. E, of the peculiar curved shape shown in fig. 1. l
This foot is secured by means of a bolt, a, passing through the beam A, or by any other suitable means.
At a suitable point in the 'forked foot E, is placed a 'stationary shoulder-stop, F, which is bent downward, and is notched at the centre of its lower edge, as shown. A rod, G, is attached to the plow-beam A, by means of a band, H, passing rod, and held securely by means of a wedge, I, inserted under the band on top of the beam.
The rod G passes backward, thrgugh the forked foot E, above the shoulder-stop F, then bends, and again passes through the forked foot E, 'but below the said shoulder-stop. The end of the rod G then passes through a hole, or slot in the plow-blade, and enters the notch in the edge of the shoulder-stop.
The plow-blade J rests on the lower end of the foot E, andextends up under th'e shoulder-stop F,being held in position, as already mentioned, by the end of `ghe rod G, which passes through a slot in the plowlade.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters lPatent, is-
1. Securing the plow-blade T, by means of the forked foot E, shoulder-stop F, and rod G, all substantially as shown and described.
2. In combination with the plow-beam A, the forked foot E, rod G, band H, and wedge I, all constructed and Operating substantially as shown and described.
LAWSON G. PEEL.
