wAsnBoiLEn.
To all whom it 'may concern: l
-Be it known that I, LILLIAN ALTA RITTER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Washboilers, of which the fol owing is a speciication, reference being had therein to the accompanyingdrawing.
. boiler for' clothes."
This invention relates tocertain new and useful improvements in boilers, andthe invention relates more particularly to a wash The invention has for its object to rovide a novel form of boiler wherein nove means are employed for preventing the clothes or articles being boiled within the boiler from being burned or scorched.
Another object of this invention is to provide a boiler` from which the Water can'be easily and quickly withdrawn, without removing the boiler from the stoveorvother heating medium.
A' further object of this invention is topro-` vide a boiler having a novel steam outlet Whichis normally open, but is closed while the water is being'withdrawn from they boiler.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a novel form of wash boiler which will be extremely. simple in construction,v
strong and durable an comparatively inex ensive to manufacture.
ith the above and other objects in view,
which will more readily appear as the inve'n` tion is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement ofy parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and referring to the drawing accompanying this application,
.like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts 'throughout the several views, in Whichz- Figure 1 is a rear elevation of my im. proved boiler, Fi .-2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view e arged of the same, Fig. 3 is an end view of the boiler.y l
To put my invention into ractice, I construct my improved boiler o an oblong receptacle 1 having a hinged lidjor closure-2, which is provided with a knob or 'suitable handle 3, whereby the lid can be easily and quickly opened. 'The receptacle 1 has its bottom p ate 4 rovided with two transversely arranged depending channel-shaped supports 5, 5,y these supports being adapted to maintain the receptacle a slight distance Specication of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 24. 1906. Serial No.. 31b|396| Patented Dec. 10, 1907.`
rynig a faucet 9, and within/ the pipe 8, I
arrange' a tube 10 which extends upwardly within the receptacle 1 above the'top edge of the receptacle 1 within the lid 2.- The faucet plug 11 is provided'with two reversely dis osed` orts 12 and 14, the port 14controlling t e`outlet of the tube 10 while the port 12 controls the outlet'of the pipe 8 The 'pipe 8 is employed for withdrawing water from the receptacle 1, while the tube 10. is
adapted'to permit the escape of the. steam, generated by boiling water .within the receptacle, to the exterior thereof.
It is a well known fact that when lthe bottom of a wash boiler rests upon the to of a stove, that there is a liability of the CFO Iwhich are being boiled Within the same, beingbui'ned o'r scorched, and .by providing my improved boiler with the supports 5,'5, I ele-l thes l vate the saine sufficiently to prevent the clothes from being burned or scorched, at the ,same time retaining the boiler in close proximity to the stove order that the water contained therein maybe boiled. As large wash boilers 4containing clothes are rather cumbersome to' handle, I have obviated the necessity of elevating the boiler when it is desiredto withdraw the water therefrom by providing the pipe 8 and the faucet 9, and b the nove construction of the faucet9 it Wi ly be observed that When the water is not being withdrawn, the steam generated by boiling Water within the receptacle is permitted'to esca e through the tube 10 and the faucet .9.
T e ipe 10 extending above the water in the boiler permits the steam `to escape and thereby relieves the pressure above the water and .prevents -the steam from opening the cover 2 andA permitting the escape of the y fumes from the boiling garments.
My 'nventioni particularly' resides in the'.
steam'and water outlet together with the sup.
ports and the hinged lid of the boiler, and while I haver herein illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, I desire it to be -understood, that such changes, as' are permissible by the appended claims7 may be resorted to Withoutdepart- 5 ing from the spirit and scope of the invention. 1
What I claim and desire to secure by Let- ,ters Patent; is z- `The combination with a receptacle oi'fa l0 faucet body` having a transverse Valve seat With a single conduit communicating with @the valve seat at one side and tWo spaced conduitscommunicatng with the valve seat at the other side, one of said spaced/ con- I vided with tWo independent ports at rightr angles to each other and spaced apart and adapted to be alternately alined with said spaced conduits. c
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
