IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,097, dated October 8, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN G. NoBLEs, of Lawrence, in the county of Douglas and State of Kansas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Wash-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a sectional view of my invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view (if the same; and Fig. 3 is a detail View of the same.

My invention has relation to wash-boilers; and consists in the addition to such boilers of the generators,valve, and attachable conduitpipe, hereinafter described, by which great efficieney and novel uses are intended to be secured to that class of household utensils.

A of the drawing represents my wash-boiler proper; B, the cover; and C, the packing for making the vesselv air-tight. The letter D represents what I call a steamgenerator. It consists in a cup attached to the bottom of a steam-tube, as shown, and which is pressed closely to the bottom of the vessel and upon suitable packing by means of the screw-' threads upon the nipple'ct and the lower end of said tube, as the drawing represents. The letter E represents a valve in the side of the generator D, and the letters G designate auxiliary tubes connecting with the main tube H in the manner shown. Kreprcsents a rem ovable cap, having pendent tubular arms, which I attach to the tube H or remove therefrom at will. This tube H has a covered top, but has two apertures, c a, which, when the cap K is in place and adjusted therefor, are respectively opposite and lead into the pendent arms above mentioned and permit the steam to escape through such arms. When, however, it is deemed desirable, for the purpose of more thoroughly agitating the water in the body of the vessel, the operator turns the cap K so that the arms of the cap shall stand at right angles to the openings 0, thereby closing the same and forcing the steam and water through the auxiliary tubes G. The letter N represents a generator, constructed and attached to the bottom of the vessel in the same manner as the generator D, except that in the con- .struction thereof I omit the valve E and substitute therefor the button-door O. I call this a dry generator for the reason that the water to form steam therein must be furnished through the door 0. In the construction of the steamtube for the generator N I omit the auxiliary tubes G, and usually attach thereto a plain curved tube, as shown at P on the drawing. Q represents the rack upon which the soiled clothing is placed for boiling. The letter R designates a nipper attached to the cover of my boiler. It is constructed with a screwthread, as shown, and I connect therewith a screw-cap, adapted, when desirable, to close the opening through the cover and the nipper and render the vessel steam-tight. This screwcap is marked (1 on the drawing. The letter S represents a steam-tube adapted to screw closely over the nipper B when the cap a is removed.

The oflice of this nipper and tube is to enable the operator, when desirable, to conduct steam from the boiler to fruit-cans. This is accomplished by placing therein the nozzle of the tube. It is apparent that fruit in cans can be readily and effectively steamed and sufficiently cooked for preservation by this apparatus. principally for canning fruit, but do not conline myself to that specific oflice. I can use it for warming or cooking vegetables, oysters, or other food, and for a variety of other purposes.

It is obvious that the-nipper It and the conduit-pipe can be applied with equal efficiency to the side of the boiler as to the top thereof.

What I claim as'my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a wash-boiler the generators D and N, constructed and arranged substantially as specified.

2. In combination with the generatorD and tube H, the valve E, constructed and arranged in a wash-boiler, substantially as set forth.

3. In a washboiler the combination of the tubes G and the tube H having openings 0 with the cap K having tubular pendent arms, substantially as specified.
