ers, designed more particularly for use in at-- taching paint samples to cards but which is capable of other uses, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a machine which can be quickly adjusted to apply any suitable number of sample strips to cards or folders by an unskilled person.
Still another object is to provide a machine of the character referred to which can be operated by a foot treadle in contradistinction to a power operated machine.
Another object of the inventionis to apply sample strips to cards at the desired distances apart after said cards have received paste applied thereto by a machine forming the subject matter of a separate application filed under date of August 11, 1906, Serial N 0. 330,226.
The foregoing advantages and objects are attained by means of the construction illus-' trated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front to rear sectional view of a machine made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the upper portion of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the table portion of the machine.
Referring to the drawings for a more par; ticular description of my invention, a designates the framework for supporting the table I) which is secured to the upper portion of said framework, said table having a series of openings 0 therein, said openings conforming in size and relative arrangement to the size and arrangement of the sample strips to be attached to the cards.
Below the openings in the table a movable plunger board (1 is arranged, said board being supported upon a treadle rod e connected at its lower end to a pivoted treadlef. The rod e near its upper end passes through an aperture g in a board or plate h and a spiral spring 71 surrounds the rod and bears at its upper end against the under surface of said board or plate and the lower end of said spring rests upon a stop or collar j secured to the rod. Supported upon the plunger board d are a series of blocks is which fit accurately within the openings 0 in the table. Y
Feeding guides l are secured to the table to accurately hold the card in place. A platen m hinged at n to the table and formed of a comparatively heavy metal plate, is adapted to be swung down to lie upon the top of the card after it has been laced within the guides Z. When the trea le f is operated the blocks 70 are carried upward through the perforations c in the table to apply the top series of strips placed within said openings and resting upon the said blocks. The platen m is then lifted from the, card and swung back against thestop 0 and the card is removed from the machine with the sample strips attached thereto.
It will be obvious from the foregoing that a machine made in accordance with my invention will be simple in construction, can be operated by a person without skilled knowledge, can be readily adjusted to apply strips at varying distances apartupon cards by a proper arrangement of the strips and the machine is capable of rapid operation and with a little practice a person can apply a great number of sample strips to cards on the ma chine described.
Having thus described the invention, What I claim is:
The herein described machine for mounting sample strips upon cards, comprising a frame, a table supported upon the frame and provided with a series of apertures therethrough, a weighted platen hinged to the table, a stop for said platen, 'a series of guides on said table to hold the paper sheets in position to receive the sample strips, a plunger board, a series of presser blocks secured to said board and projecting into the apertures in said table, a board or plate rigidly secured to the frame under said plunger board, a plunger rod extending through said board and connected to said plunger board, a spring In testimony whereof, I 'affix my signature surrounding said plunger 50}? anal bealiing at in presence of two Witnesses.
