Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Dec. 3, 1907.
'- Application filed May 27,1907. Serial No. 375.913-
of London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Davits, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the well known form of davit the lower part of which is in the form of a toothed quadrant rolling upon a rack.
In such davits as heretofore constructed drl'hculty has SOIHGtlIIlGSq'bGGIl experienced by the racks and guides becoming choked especially by ice.
According to this invention this objection is overcome by making the rack in the form of a grating and by providing at each side of With is crushed and forced through the teeth of the rack.
Figure 1 is a side elevation and Fig. 2 a
back elevation of a davit constructed accordfront elevation of part of the quadrant. F
3 to 7 are to a larger scale than Figs 1 and 2.
a is the clavit the lower part b of which is in the form of a toothed quadrant.
The davit ct works on a pivot )in c fixed to the side of a block dwhich is ree to move along a guide bar a. The lower partof the block at is in the -lorm of a nut through which the screw f passes.
and fro by turning the screw. I
g is a handle on the screw'f and 7a is the 40 rack upon which the quadrant b is rolled to The rack 7L (shown to a larger scale at Figs. I 3 to. 5) consists of teeth 3' having their ends fixed to two side guide plates 7r which project above the teeth. The teeth as shown have clear 0 )enings between them and the quadrant 1) ishown to a larger scale at Figs. 6 and 7) rolls between the guide plates 70 so that any ice that may be formed on the parts is crushed and forced through the openings. The openings between the 'teeth, 7', flare downwardly, i. 0., they gradually increase in width from their upper portions toward their lower ends, thus enabling the crushed ice to more readily pass through the rack.
What I claim is:
1. The combination of a davit, a toothed quadrant at the bottom of the davit and a horizontal rack beneath the toothed quadrant having clearopenings through it be tween'its teeth upon which the quadrant can roll, crush ice and force it throughthe openlugs. I
' 2. The combination of a davit, a toothed quadrant at the bottom of the davit and a horizontal rack below the quadrant having clear openings. between its teeth which flare or increase in width downwardly from their upper portions towards their lower ends upon which the quadrant can roll and force ice through the openings. 1
3. The combination of a davit, a toothed quadrant at the bottom of the davit, ahorizontal rack below the davit having clear openings between its teeth upon which the quadrant can'roll'and crush. ice through the openings and guide plates at eachside of the rack projecting above its teeth.
