HOSE-SUPPORTER.
T 0 all 'whom itma'y concern:
Be it known that I, OREN BRANCH OYER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Chillicothe, in the county of Ross and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clasps and it has particular reference to a clasp especially designed for use as a hose supporter.
The invention aims as a primary object to provide a clasp embodying clamping sections and having in combination novel means for locking said clamping sections in their engaged relation.
It is a further object of the invention to i provide a clasp of the above type which may gaged from the clamping member. Fig. 3 is a similar view partly in section showing the locking means engaged with the er. Fig. 4 is an end elevation, looking at the ends of the clamping members. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail elevation similar to Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a transverse section on the line 66 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 7 is a fragmentary elevation similar to Fig. 3 and illustrating a slight departure in construction.
In the practical embodiment of my invention I'employ a clasp constructed essentially of integral wire stock, bent at one end to form an enlarged bow shaped portion which is sweated or otherwise articulated with a cap 1 preferably of sheet metal. The wire stock is then bent co-extensively on each side to form looped portions 2 having parallel ing bars 3. The free ends of the bars 3 pro ect into the space between the-sides of the cap 1 and in clamping such space are held fixed in order to impart Specification of Letters Patent.

loops 2 and the clamping bars 3. In Fig. 3 pins or rivets 4 are provided between the sides of said cap" 1 and are engaged with said clamping bars 3 to hold the free ends thereof fixed for the purpose described. The alternative form illustrated in Fig. 7 differs only from the form shown in Fig. 3 in the elimination of the pins or rivets 4 and in making the bars 3 of increased length so as to frictionally contact as at 5 with the inner surface of the cap 1. To facilitate their gripping function the bars 3 preferably have flattened edges 3 which frictionally grip the fabric clamped therebetween and prevent accidental displacement of the clasp.
The means for clamping the loops 2 in their engaged relation comprises an L shaped member having a su porting leg 6 and a clamping leg 7. The eg 6 has portions of its loops or eyes 8 which loosely surround one of the outer bars of the loops 2 and co-act therewith to aflord a pivot for the clamping le 7. The latter has its free end bent inwardly to afford a hook 9 for engagement with the adjacent outer bar of the loop 2.
The manner of use will be readily apparent. When used as a hose supporter the fabric of the hose and of the under garment underlying the same is pinched and introduced between the gripping bars 3. These bars have sufficient resiliency to permit them to yield to receive said fabric therebetween. When the fabric has been thus introduced between said bars to a sufficient depth, the clamping bar 7 is rotated about its fixed pivot and its hook 9 is engaged with the outer bar of the opposed loop 2. This step in the operation is clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 5. When the bar 7 has thus been engaged, the 100 s 2 will be held against displacement, an the fabric between the bars 3 will be tightly clamped by friction. The reverse operation is employedto release the fabric. This is effected by first disengaging the bar 7 and by then withdrawing the fabric from be tween the bars 3, which is done by the proper movement of the clasp.
The disclosure of .the drawings is to be regarded as purely arbitrary and as a preferred example of a number of advantageous embodiments of the invention in which the same principles of construction and operation as have been herein set forth, are employed.
While the elements herein shown and described are well adapted to serve the functions set forth, it is obvious that various minor changes may be made in the proportions, shape and arrangement of the several parts Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having fully claim:
1. A clasp of the type set forth comprising Wire stock bent upon itself to form parallel loops having their ends fixed and including juxtaposed gripping bars designed to resiliently bear against one another, and a member including a tubular portion clasped axially about the outer side bar of one of said loops, said member having a hooked end for described my invention I engagement With the outer side bar of the other of said loops.
2. A clasp of the type set forth comprising Wire stock bent upon itself to form parallel loops having their ends fixed and including juxtaposed gripping bars designed to resili ently bear against one another, and a mem ber pivoted axially on the outer side bar of one of said loops, said member having a hooked end for engagement with the outer side bar of the other of said loops.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
OREN BRANCH OYER.
