Be it known that I, CHARLES A. FOSTER, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Oaktown, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented a new Vand useful Improvement in` a ScaHolding-Support, of

which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to scaffolding supports and more particularly to adjustab e vsupports adapted to be used by plasterers or paperhangers when working the upper portion of the wall, of the ceilings of a room, the

object being to rovide a support which can be readily moves from place to place and one which can be easily and quickly adjusted so as to suit the height of the room.

Thisinvention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter fully de- V scribed 'and pointed out in the claims.

The other end of the tube is secured in a threaded socket formed in a head J, which is provided with a jaw J having a transverse tooth J2 adapted to engage one side of the beam F. A slot is formed in the angle portion of the jaw in which the anule apertured portion of the jaw K is pivotallly mounted on a pin K', which is also provided with a transverse tooth K2 adapted to engage the other side of the beam. The jaw K is provided with a handle K3 having an u wardly rojecting pin K4 carrying a chain 5, adapted) to extend around the head J, and securely lock the jaws K to the beam F.

From the foregoing description it will be I seen that I have provided a very novel support for supporting the scaffold so that it `can be uickly adjusted when desired and one Whic will be very rigid in use so that all danger oithe same turnin over is prevented.

Havin thus fully described my inventlon, what I c aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1 1. In a device of the kind described the combination with a base provided with a standard, of a supporting member adjustably mounted in said standard, a sleeve adjustably mounted on said standard, and an arm pivoted to said sleeve, a head secured to said arm provided with a fixed jawand a pivoted jaw mounted on said -head for the purpose described.

In a device of the kind described the combination with a base provided with a threaded opening, of a threaded tube socured in said opening provided with key hole slots, a` tube arranged in said tube provided with corres onding slots, a key passing through sai slots, a stem mounted in the smaller tube provided with a forked head provided with clamping means, a sleeve mounted on the tube carried by the base, provided with an apertured ear, a head pivoted to said ear provided with a threaded socket, a tube secured win said socket, a head secured to the end, said tube provided With,

a 'fixed jaw, a jaw pivoted to said head, and means carried by the pivoted jaw for locking it to the head for the purpose described.

In a device of the kind'described, the combination with' a base having a hollow cylindrical standard mounted thereon, oi a tube adjustably mounted in said standard, both of said standards and said tube; being provided With registering key-hole slots, and a supporting bracket adapted to be-inserted in said keyhole, slots for' su porting a bearing below the top of said stan ard.

4, In a device of the kind described, the

combination with a base provided With a hollow standard, of a tube mounted in the standard provided With keyholev slots registering with similar slots in said standard, a sleeve adjustably mounted on the standard,` an arm pivoted at one end to said sleeve and provided at its other end with a head having a lixed jaW and a jaw carrying locking means, pvotally U-shaped brackets having an angled head formed on the end thereof, said head being adapted to be inserted, in said keyhole slots, securely looking said bracket in a suspended position `for the purpose described.
