Description
No. 872,225. PATENTED Nov. 26, 1907.
R. T. DURHAM.
GROCER'S CABINET. APPLIoATIoN FILED 2212.20. 1907.
RICHARD T. DURHAM, or RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
GROCERS CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1907.
Application iiled February 20. 1907. Serial No. 358,405,
To all whom it may concern.'
lBe it known that I, RICHARD T. DURHAM, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented ceri 4tain new and useful Improvements in Groeers7 Cabinets,'of Awhich the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in grocers cabinets and the like, particularly adapted for use for containing `cans kor other receptacles for cakes andthe like, and in its generic nature my invention comprises a cabinet having one or more compartments provided with a can containing slide which is so mounted in the cabinet as to be capable of being projected to theoutside thereof and in which means are provided for tilting the slide as it is projected from the cabinet to tilt the can forward so as to havethe interior readily accessible when the lid is open'.
In its more subordinate features, -my invention comprises certain novel construction, combination Land arrangement of parts all of which will be first' described in detail and then be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a perspective .view of my invention, showing one of the slides drawn out. Fig. 2, is a vertical cross section on the line 2 -`-2 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3, is a horizontal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. il, is a detail perspective view of one of the slides. n Fig. 5, is a detail perspective view of one of the slotted guideways.
vReferring now to the accompanying drawings in which like letters and numerals of reference indicate like parts in all of the A figures, 1 designates the housing which com prises the bottom la, top 1b, sides 1C and back 1d, together with the central partition supports le'and 1f which are connected by the` transverse strip 1g, as shown. n 1h designates the roller carrying baseboard uponwhich the slides 3 are adapted to rest.
2 designates a series of rollers secured to theJbase-board 1h upon which rollers the slide 3 is adapted to move, and the slide 3 comprises the bottom frame 3a, the sides 3h A and the front 3C, to which a suitable pull or handle member 3d may be secured.
Within the slide between the side mem* y bers?)b a strut 3e is secured so as to firmly hold the can 5 in position within the slide.
. 3f designates studs proj ectinglaterally from the sides 3b of each slide upon which 'friction rollers 3g may be mounted if desired and the friction rollers 3g are adapted to coperatively engage the slots 4 of the guide members 4 which are secured tothe casing within the same at each side of the slide, the guide members 4 having their slots 4 arranged in an ascending line from the rear of the casing toward the front, thcslots being open at the rear of the casing as at 4b and closed only by the back wall of the casing, while in the front the slots terminate at a point 4 in the rear of the rollers 2, thus as the slide 3 is drawn out the front end thereof will be tilted down proportionately to the distance it is drawn out, due to the friction rollers 3g riding up the inclined surfaces 4X of the guide 4l,-the slide 3 assuming its normal horizontal posi tion as it is again telescoped within the casing. Thus it will be seen that as the slide 3 is drawn forward and tilted down, the can or receptacle 5 will be correspondingly tilted so as to throw the back surfaces 5 of the can 5 into a plane which will clear the front edge of the top of the casing when the slide is projected so that the lid 5b of the can can be swung up to open the can and will rest against the front edge of the casing as a support when the lid 5b is opened. As the slide is again moved within the casing the lid 5b of the can will be automatically closed and the can returned within the casing.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying draw-- ings, it is thought the complete construction, operation and numerous advantages of my invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and l desire to say that while I have shown a particular design of my invention and shown the same with two slides, yet the latter' construction may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention, and the number of slides may be increased or decrcased,'as desired, without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the appended claims.
l/Vhat l claim is :4-
1. In a cabinet of the class described, a casing having an open front, a slide held within the said casing and adapted to be drawn therefrom, Ineans for limiting -the withdrawal of the said slides and for tilting them as they are being withdrawn, said means comprising oppositely disposed guide plates having' horizontal slots that incline upwardly from the rear of the casing toward the front, said slots terminating near the front end of the easing, carriers having latl eral members for `engaging said slots and bearings for the carriers at the front end of the easing, said bearings being located in a plane below the front or closed end of the guide slots, substantially as shovvn and for the purposes described.
2. In a cabinet of the Ycharacter described, a easing having an open front and oppositely disposed guide members at the bottom, said guide members having slots o`pen at the rear end that incline upwardly toward the front end and terminate in stops at points near the' frontend 'of the casing, horizontal rollerl bearings mounted in the front end of the casing in a plane below the closed end of the guide slots and a can holding carriage having lateral roller bearings for engaging the slots in the guides and having solid bearings portions for riding upon the roller bearing in the front end of the casing7 all being arrged E. R. MILLER, i JOHN W. WHITAKER.
