v drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of arailway tie constructed according to my invention Fig. 2 a plan view therer of; Fig. 3 an end elevation; and Fig. 4 a detail perspectiveview of a portion of the tie.
The object of this invention is to provide animproved metallic tie and track fastening device which -will be durable, inexpensive. and reliable,'as more fully'hereinafter-setforth.
designates the tie which is approximately I-shaped in cross-sec'tion, having a central vertical web and oppositely projecting flanges at its upper as well as its lower edge.- making a light and very strong structure.
' rails rest upon the toward the same end of the tie.-
The upper fiangesare laterally extended where .the I I tie,'for ming shoulders'b which face By preference I have both sets of shoulders face toward the same end of the tie. Each of these flanges wardly projecting lug dwhich is beveled on its upper face so that when the clip is slid up toward the rail these lugs dwill engage under the shoulders bfand thus tightly clamp the rail to the tie and against the opposite sta- Specification of Letters Patent. These slidableclips are forced up vent thesekeys or wedges being withdrawn after they are driven home the lower ends 'thereof; which project below the lower surface .of the tie, are struck up or bent laterally.
It will-be observed that by my invention 1 provide a verydurable and rigid fastening means which will not require the use of any fastening bolts or other devices liable to loosen or break. I prefer having both the perin the same direction in order that any tie may be readily removed and replaced by simply manipulating the movable fastening clips.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: i
