The object of the present invention is to improve the corals-action of dials for watches and clocks, and to provide an exy simple and inexpensive dial adapted to enable the time in minutes and hours to be ascertained at night or any other time without hiking a light. A A further object of the invention is to provide a watch dial of this character, which will enable the hours and minutes to be ascertainedeven by the blind without confusion and without'interfering wit the second hand of a watch.

The time in minutes is then ascertained by locating the mimite hand and ascertaining its position with relation to the outer Roman numerals and by employing two sets of numerals oi diflerent char- 'acter, all confusion in vthe/time is prevented. The frame or casing of the watch is also di-' vided into quarters by projections 7 located opposite the 3, 6, 9 andf12, which are intended to mark the location of the hours indicated by such numbers, and thereby facilitate the finding of the numbers in their vicinity. Tlie lid s, which is preferably iii-rin ed to swing to the right in opening, is provided with coriiil responding depressions 9, which receive the projections when'the lid is closed. The lid is connected with the case by a hinge 10 of the ordinary construc- In order to protect the seconds hand of the watch, the dial is provided with a depremion 12,. and a small crystal 13 is arranged over the seconds hand, so that' the hand of the person irsing the watch and ascertaining the time by touch will not come in contact with the seconds hand and interfere with the running of the watch.

The improvements herein shown and described do not necemitate any dlange in the movement of swatch or clock, or the arrangement of the bands thereof, and it may be applied to any ordinary watch or clock, and it will enable the blind and others to readily ascertain the time in'minutes and hours by the sense of touch.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. A dial for wflzches and having inner and outerraised numerals arranged to correspond to themlnute and hour hands of a watch or clock, said dial being also provided with a depressed portion to receive the seconds hand, and a small crystal titted over the depressed portion to cover and protect the seconds hand.

' 2. A watch or clock, comprising a case divided into quarters by projectingduga and having a hinged lid with indentations corraponding to and arranged to receive the projections when the lid is closed, and a dial having inner and outer raised numerals.

3. A dial tor watches having innerand outer series of raised numerals arranged to correspond with the minute and hour hands of a watch, said dial being also provided with a depressed portion intersecting the inner series oi numerals, projecting lugs located opposite the 9, 12 and 3 oi the inner series of numerals, 0. seconds hand arranged in the depressed portion, a small crystal fitted over the depl'vssud portion to protect the seconds hand, and hour and minute hands, the hour hand traveling over the inner 5 numerals and the minute hand extending beyond the inner numerals and traveling over the outer numerals.

4. A dial tor watches and clocks having inner raised Arabic numerals and outer raised Roman numerals arranged to correspond to the minuteand hour hands of a 10 watch or clock, said dial being also provided with a de I pressed portion to receive the seconds hand, and s. small crystal fitted over the depressed portion to cover and protect the seconds hand.
