JOHN G. PEPPLER, OFWEEHAWKEN, NEW JERSEY.
POST-CARD ENVELOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 22', 1907.
Application led February 11, 1907. Serial No. 356,847.
To all whom it may concern'.-
Be it known that I, JOHN G. PEPPLER, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Weehawken, in the county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invent-' ed certain new and useful Improvements in-Post-Card Envelope;` and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description fthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in tlie art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation tothat class 'of envelops that are designed to protect so-called` souvenir postal cards.
It is well known that many souvenir cards as now produced are liable to damage if not protected from abrasion by contact with or rubbing against other matter or things, and if the card is placed within an ordinary envelop where it cannot be directly stamped and the cancellation of the stamp be brought directly upon it and the said stamp, must be paid thereon.
It is the purpose of my invention to provide a cardholding envelop formed from light transparent paper or similar material through 'which the superscription' may be readily distinguished and read, and which envelop while completely protecting the inclosed card by the back which covers the same will have a space cut away at the upper right-hand corner and to the regular first-,class postage i left of it`which will completely-expose the stamp and a portion of the card, nakedly,.so that the cancellation of the stamp and the postmark o'n the card may be affixed thereto; while the superscripton4 may be easily read through the covering below.
The nature of the invention is ascertainable from the device portrayed in the annexedndrawing, forming a part of this specification, in view of which i-t will rst be' descibed with respect to its construction and mode of use and then be pointed out in the subjoined claims.
Of. the said drawing-Figure l is a face view of my improved postal card envelop. Fig. 2 is a `vertical central sectional view thereof.
Similar numerals of reference designate similar 'y parts or features, as the case may be,` wherever they occur. l
In the drawings, 10 designates the envelop proper,
I which is made of transparent paper or other transparent or translucent material so that the card 11 inclosed in the envelop maybe visible through the covered portions thereof.
The superscription l2 on the card may be placed on the lower right hand portion as usual and will be covered by the lower half 13 of the transparent envelop,
the portion thereabove being cut away to expose the stamp 14 placed upon the card 11 and leaving a space l5 for the stamping of the post mark on the naked card also.
The envelop 10 may be of usual orA any other suitable form that will.inclose the card rather closely. TheA upper` portion 16 of the envelop above the part left bare for thepost mark and the cancellation of the postage stamp is gummed so that it may be securedl to the upper margin of the' card l1 and not only hold the card but keep the envelop as well in place on the card;
vThe facey ofthe postal card. will be Vcompletely covered by the back of the envelop so that while it can be'seen through the latter, itwil1beprotected against being chafed or otherwise damaged by coming in contact with other postal cards, letters or other things.
As hereinbefore indicated, I' do not limit myself to'I `the particular substance oiv which the envelop may be: composed, it being necessary only that it be of trans- Y the stamp on4 parent or transluent material and have the card and the naked 'portion of the latter to the left of the 'stamp left bareso. that the stampv may be canceled and a post mark left directly on the card, and
so `also that the superscription may be clearly read through the envelop as shown.
` What is claimed is- An -envelop for the transmission` ofsouvenir posta1- cards, comprising flexible transparent material, having a part cut away at the upper right hund corner on the super scription side, and to the left of said corner, exposing in naked condition the face of the stamp on the card'and a` portion of the latter to the lett of it whereby the stamp cancelling can be effected directly on the stamp and card, and the latter may be proteted in transmission. In testimony whereof, I ailix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
' JOHN G. PEPPLER. Witnesses:
HENRY SINGER, EMELINE Parrains.
