CAMPAIGN BADGE. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 25, 1906 WITNESSES ATTORNEYS .rnzr NORRIS PETE AXEL JAOOBSEN, OF HASTINGS, NEBRASKA.
CAMPAIGN-B AD GE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1907.
Application filed September 25,1906. Serial No. 336,203.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AXEL JACOBSEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hastings, in the county of Adams and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Campaign-Badge, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to buttons or pins adapted to be worn to display a photograph, picture, printed matter or advertisement, and relates more particularly to means whereby two different photographs, pictures, or the like, may be contained within a single button or pin and either one displayed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, in which Figure l is a front elevation of my improved button or pin, a portion thereof being broken away; Fig. 2 is a central section on the line 22 of Fig. ,1; and Fig. 3 is a rear elevation. I
My improved button or pin comprises two parallel walls, comprising the front 1 and the rear 2 of the but ton. These two parallel walls are preferably circular in form and are spaced apart by any suitable means, that shown comprising two parallel partitions 3. The two partitions, or other spacing means, are provided with bearings at the opposite ends, whereby two parallel rollers 4 may be journaled between the front and rear plates of the pin or button and adjacent opposite edges thereof. Surrounding these two rollers is an endless sheet or film 5, adapted to have the photograph, picture, printed matter, or advertisement, stamped thereon or secured thereto in any suitable manner. The face plate 1 of the pin is provided with an aperture through which the subject-matter on the screen may be seen, and the rear plate 2 is provided with a pin 6, or any other suitable means, by which the device may be secured upon the lapel of a coat or any other portion of the garment, and is also provided with a slot 7 through which extends a small knob 8 carried by the endless sheet or film,
When the knob 8 is at one extremity of the slot, one portion of the film is directly beneath the'aperture in the faceplate and one picture, photograph, advertisement or other subject-matter, is disclosed. Upon moving the knob 8 to the opposite end of the slot, the sheet or film 5 is moved on the two parallel rollers 4 and an entirely different picture, photograph, or the like, is brought beneath the aperture and disclosed to view. I
If desired, the aperture in the face plate may be made somewhat smaller, and more than two pictures, or the like, printed on or secured to the endless sheet. Then by moving the knob 8 to the extreme positions, or
i l I l 'tudinal slot therein, spacing stopping it at intermediate portions along the slot, different pictures, or the like, may be brought beneath the aperture.
The improved device above described may have the photographs of the candidates of the opposite political parties on the screen, and only one kind of button would thus have to be manufactured to accommodate persons of both political faiths. A person of one party would move the knob to one end of the slot and disclose a photograph of his candidate, while a person of the opposite political party by moving the knob in the opposite direction, would disclose his favorite candidate.
It is evident that the device shown is not limited to use in displaying the photographs of political candidates, but may be used for displaying advertisements of any attractive design or popular words or phrases.
Various changes may be made in the specific construction of the device, particularly as relates to the manner of securing the device to a garment and the supporting device for the rollersand the operating mechanism therefor, the scope of my invention being defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A device of the character described, comprising .a face plate having an aperture therein, a rear plate sup ported substantially parallel thereto and having a longimeans between said plates, two rollers journaled between said plates and upon opposite sides of said aperture, an endless sheet or film carried by said rollers and adapted to pass in front of the aperture, and means carried by said sheet and extending through said slot in the rear plate for moving said sheet.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a face plate having an aperture therein, a rear plate supported substantially parallel thereto and having a longitudinal slot therein, spacing means between said plates, two rollers journaled between said plates and upon opposite sides of said aperture, an endless sheet or film carried by said rollers and adapted to pass in front of the aper ture, means carried by said sheet and extending through said slot in the rear plate for moving said sheet, and means carried by said rear plate for securing the device to a garment.
3. In a device of the character described, a face plate having an aperture therein, a rear plate of substantially the same shape and supported substantially parallel thereto, spacing means between said plates, two rollers journaled within said spacing means and on opposite sides of the aperture, an endless sheet or film carried by said rollers and adapted to pass in front of the aperture, and a knob carried by said sheet for moving the latter. l
4. In a device of the character described, a face plate having an aperture therein, a rear plate substantially parallel thereto and having a longitudinal slot therein, means carried by said rear plate for securing the device to a garment, two rollers journaled between said plates and upon opposite sides of the aperture, an endless sheet or film mounted on said rollers and adapted to pass in front of the aperture, and :1 knob or projection secured to said sheet or film and extending through the slot in the rear plate, whereby the sheet or filln may be moved to bring different pictures or the like, in front of the aperture.
5. In a device of the class described, a face plate having an aperture therein, a rear plate having a longitudinal slot therein, two partitions substantially parallel to said slot and secured to the face and rear plates to hold the latter in spaced relationship, two substantially parallel rollers journaled in said partitions and at opposite ends of said slot, an endless sheet or film carried by said rollers and adapted to pass in front of the aperture of the face plate a knob or projection carried by said sheet or film and extending outward through the slot in the rear plate whereby the sheet or film may be moved on the rollers, and means carried by said rear plate for securing the device to a garment.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AXEL JACOBSEN.
