My invention aims to provideen improved valve useful for various purposes, and of the type employed in the flushing oi water closets A slow-closing arrangement; is provided, and the operation in n general way is similar to previous valves of this type. In. order to effect the slow closure of the valve C, it is connected by Inc-nus of 2V stem K to it piston L of somewhat; larger diameter than the valve, which piston works in n cylinder M. Normally the net upward pressure of the water between the under side of the piston L and the upper side of the valve C. is more than counterbalan cod by the downward pressure of Water on cop oi the piston L. In order to operate the valve, the pressure in the cylinder M above the piston is withdrawn or relieved, which results in an upward n10vemerit of the piston and valve. The relief of the pres sure is cl'i'oci'c-d by ihe withdrawal of the water from the cylinder M. :i passageway being open for this purpose l e't .veen the cylinder and the discharge pipe. The operation of the valve is dependent upon the control of the flow through the passages for relieving and for restoring the prcssure in the slow-closing cylinder Ill.
