WILLIAM G. cmnn, or ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA.
V SANITARY BAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1907.
Application and April 25,1907. Serial Ho. 370,278.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, \l'rnnun G. Onanx, a citizen of the United Suites, residing at Altoona, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented cerof which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in store furniture, and has special reference to what may be characterized. 9. sanitary bar designed to replace the rants or bar rooms. I To this end the invention c ntemplates a simple, practical and thoroughly sanitary bar structure wherein a clear and unobstructed space is provided entirely exposes every part of the bar fixture to view for purposes of inspection and cleaning.
In the above connection the invention also contempla'es a simple and practical mounting of parts sence of the uncleanlincss and other well known objections to the old style wooden bars consisting of a counter top and solid paneling closely built up from thelloor to said counter top and completely inclosing A further object of the invention is to provide a bar construction permitting of a great .degree of ornamentation so as to present to. the eye a bar or bar counter of an exceedingly attractive ornamental de- With these and many other objects in view, which will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts,
claimed.
The essential features oi the invention involved in carrying out the objects above indicated are necessarily susceptible to a variety of structural changes but a preferred embodiment thereof is shown in the accompanying drawings, in whicha Figure 1 is a front elevation of a sanitary bar or bar counter constructed in accordance with the present Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the bar or bar counter; Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Like references designate corresponding parts in the In carrying out the present invention, the improved bar embodies in its general organization a series of upright regularly spaced supporting pedestals l, a counter top 2, an inside work table 3, and ornamental grille 'efiect for the'bar, which is (lispc d a material distame above the plane of the floor in the manner to be presently explained.
It is the int ntion o lllt present invention to providc a bar structure constructed of cast. iron throughout w th the single exception of the renewable counter top 2, thereby admitting of a. high degree of finishing by means of painting and channeling.
The upright supp rting pedestals 1 are arranged in any desired number, according to the length of the room to be fenced off, but are preferably arranged in regular spaced relation to maintain a proper ornamental effect well as to provide for the effective support of the various parts and-fixtures carried by the bar. The said pedestals are duplicates in construction and each consists of a semi-tubular casting formed at its lower end with an integral widened ioot piece 5 preferably provided with the attaching flanges t; adaptedto rev sive suitable fnstenings for readily securing the pedestals to the floor. Above its widened foot piece 5 each supporting pedestal is in the form of an upright column and at its upper extremity is provided with an inwardly extending braced horizontal top bracket 7 0! I double flanged formation and whose flanges are adapted to receive the screws or tx uivalent fastenings 8 for fastening in position the wooden or equivalent counter top 2. This counter top 2 is secured to the top bracket 7 of the entire series of supporting pedestals and is preferably provided at its front edge with an ornamental front rail 10, said counter top and its rail constituting the part of the bar over which the liquor or refreshments are served by the attendant. 2
In addition to the horizontal top bracket 7, each of the metallic supporting pedestals 1 is provided at a point intermediate the upper and lower ends of the pedestals with inwardly extending horizontal table brackets 11 of greater length and projection than the top bracket 7 supporting=the counter top 2.
The brackets 11 of the several supporting pedestals l are preferably of a doubled flanged fonnation so as to provide for the secure attachment thereto of the differnt sections of the inside work table 3 which may be fastened to the said table brackets by any suitable or approved fastening means or device. The said inside work table 3 is made up of a number of individual metal tubs or sinks, certain of which are provided with the plumbing fixtures commonly employed in connection with bars or bar counters, and one or more of the said tubs or zines, additionally designated by the reference lctter B, may be constructed to provide what may be clmracterized as a combined bottle holder and cooler, the same being of tub formation having a main central ice compartment 15 and a plurality of individual bottle holding cells 16 surrounding the arid ice compartment .11.
